The Director of Properties and Capital Projects for the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown acts as the diocesan lead in implementing major property improvements, construction, and renovation of diocesan properties. The Director provides technical expertise in advising diocesan leadership on planning and executing major property projects. The position evaluates needs throughout the Diocese, defines the scope of projects, develops project budgets and oversees project execution.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Capital Project Management Assess needs of diocesan properties and feasibility of proposed project. Collaborate with the Director of Facilities and Maintenance to assess operational needs of diocesan properties. Prepare presentations of needs and recommendations for diocesan leadership. Develop project scope, schedule, and budget of proposed capital projects. Assist in vetting and selection of architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants. Secure permits and code inspections as projects require. Monitor budgets, schedules, and progress of ongoing capital projects through periodic on-site inspections. Act as primary liaison between contractors, parishes, and diocesan leadership. Address disputes, delays, concerns, and other project obstacles as they arise. Maintain records of current and completed projects. Property Evaluations Conduct onsite evaluations of diocesan properties to assess current conditions and future needs of diocesan property. Create periodic reports detailing conditions and needs of buildings and property. Document major property damage and make recommendations on appropriate scope of repairs. Collaborate with the Director of Facilities and Maintenance and the Risk Manager to address emergency property needs. Offer technical expertise to diocesan leadership regarding the planning of long-term capital projects, based on on-site property evaluations. Ensure properties comply with building codes, safety and environmental regulations. Assist with the sale, lease or acquisition of properties.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, facilities management or a related field is preferred. Commensurate professional experience may be considered.
- 3-5 years of experience in construction management, engineering, architecture, facilities management or a related field is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction best practices, project management, local and state regulations.
- Strong written, verbal, presentational, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects.
- Ability to understand and evaluate contractor proposals, construction plans, and project specifications.
- Willingness to travel regularly to various diocesan locations.
- Understanding of the mission and structure of the Catholic Church is preferred.
- Ability to comply with the Diocesan Safe Environment Policy, including an Ohio BCI background check and completion of VIRTUS training program.
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $67,000.00 per year
