Job Title:
Project Manager / Assistant Project Manager - Commercial Medical & Dental Interiors Job Description This role offers an opportunity to lead and support multiple small commercial interior construction projects focused primarily on dental, medical, veterinary, and other healthcare-related spaces. You will manage projects typically ranging from $300,000 to $1.5 million, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality. The position is ideal for a construction professional with specialized experience in medical or dental interiors who wants to grow their career with a stable, reputable contractor in the Northern Virginia market. Responsibilities Maintain detailed project logs and provide accurate daily updates on progress, issues, and next steps. Communicate regularly and proactively with the Project Manager and Operations Manager to align on project status and priorities. Manage subcontractors on site, ensuring they are working efficiently and in accordance with project plans and schedules. Update subcontractors on any project changes, clarifications, or scope adjustments in a timely manner. Maintain a neat, organized, and safe job site that reflects a professional work environment. Remain available whenever project needs require additional attention, including addressing urgent issues as they arise. Review and thoroughly understand all project plans, drawings, and design elements before work begins and throughout the project lifecycle. Enforce company site policies consistently and fairly across all project personnel and subcontractors. Implement and enforce the project schedule, coordinating trades and resources to meet milestones and deadlines. Work nights and weekends when required to meet project schedules, tenant requirements, or building access constraints. Enforce all building rules and regulations while closely monitoring and adhering to the project budget. Identify potential change orders that fall outside the original scope of work and communicate them clearly for review and approval. Coordinate with building engineers as needed and provide adequate notice to building management for requested work or building impacts. Ensure that dental, medical, and veterinary-specific equipment, systems, and layout requirements are properly understood and incorporated into project execution. Support the successful completion of a portfolio of small interior projects, including dental offices, medical suites, veterinary clinics, restaurants, spas, and other commercial interiors. Essential Skills 2-7 years of experience as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager on small commercial interior construction projects, typically ranging from $300,000 to $1.5 million in value. Proven experience managing or supporting medical, dental, veterinary, healthcare, or similar commercial interior fit-out projects. Strong ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints and construction drawings for tenant interior projects. Hands-on experience with commercial interiors construction, including coordination of subcontractors and trades. Knowledge of the specific requirements, equipment, and layouts commonly found in dental, medical, veterinary, or ophthalmology offices. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple small projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and schedule. Effective communication skills for coordinating with project managers, operations staff, subcontractors, building engineers, and building management. Strong organizational skills to maintain logs, documentation, schedules, and orderly job sites. Ability to enforce site policies, building rules, and project schedules consistently. Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends when project needs require it. Proven capability to monitor and support adherence to project budgets and identify change orders when work falls outside the original scope. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with tenant fit-out projects in dental, medical, veterinary, ophthalmology, or other healthcare-related offices. in commercial interior projects such as restaurants, spas, and other specialty interiors. Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, and documentation processes in a commercial construction environment. Experience working for or with general contractors on interior construction projects. Ability to work both collaboratively with a project team and independently when required. A career interest in long-term growth within a stable construction firm known for employee retention and strong bonus structures. Work Environment The role involves a combination of on-site and office-based work, with most time spent on active job sites. You will work in a collaborative environment with project managers, operations staff, and field teams, while also having the autonomy to operate independently when your project partner is assigned to another site or unavailable. Projects are primarily located in the Northern Virginia area and focus on commercial interior fit-outs such as dental, medical, veterinary, and other professional spaces, along with select restaurant, spa, and commercial interiors. The work schedule follows standard business hours but may require night and weekend work to accommodate building access, tenant needs, and project deadlines. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $38.46/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
