HAWKs (Hiking Adventures With Kids) runs nature-based, drop-off hiking and outdoor education programs for kids ages 5-12. The Community Outreach Manager & Educator is a hybrid, mission-driven role for someone who is connected in the local community and comfortable leading kids on the trail. This position combines local relationship-building and enrollment growth with hands-on outdoor education, representing HAWKs at schools, PTOs, and community events, and leading nature-based programming in the field. This role is ideal for a natural networker who already has relationships across local schools, parent groups, and community organizations — and who is equally at home hiking a trail with a group of kids. It requires someone who can build partnerships, engage families, and independently lead high-quality outdoor learning experiences that inspire curiosity, confidence, and environmental stewardship.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Build and grow relationships with local schools, PTAs/Friends of groups, parent leaders, and community organizations Represent HAWKs at school events, tabling opportunities, back-to-school nights, and community gatherings Turn warm introductions into lasting partnerships — this role thrives on word-of-mouth and community trust Maintain accurate outreach records and follow up promptly with interested families and partners Identify new opportunities for HAWKs to connect with schools, parks departments, and youth-serving organizations Support enrollment growth by clearly and warmly communicating what makes HAWKs different

WHAT YOU'LL DO

EDUCATOR

Lead small groups of explorers (max 7 per educator) on hikes and outdoor adventures Facilitate child-led discovery, trail games, journaling, and nature-based learning Keep every outing safe, screen-free, and genuinely fun Partner with a co-educator to manage group dynamics, transitions, and daily logistics Model curiosity, patience, and enthusiasm for the outdoors

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate has an established network in the area and the ability to build new relationships A genuine relationship-builder who can turn a first conversation into an ongoing partnership Comfortable networking with school staff, parent leaders, and community organizations Warm, energetic, and at ease with kids ages 5-12 in an outdoor setting Reliable, organized, and comfortable tracking outreach and following up on leads Physically able to hike varied terrain and lead active outdoor programming Prior experience in outreach, sales, education, childcare, or youth programming is a plus, but a strong network and people skills matter most

REQUIREMENTS

Must be 18+ with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to pass a background check Current or willingness to obtain CPR, Wilderness First Aid, and EpiPen administration certification Availability for after-school hours and occasional weekend or evening community events
