Overview Mentors build consistent, supportive relationships that help youth strengthen confidence, resilience, and positive identity development. Through dedicated guidance, they encourage practical skill-building, healthy decision-making, and engagement in positive activities. Mentoring services should take place in the community not in the home.
Goal setting and motivation:
Help youth identify personal goals, build motivation, and take manageable steps toward progress.
Healthy decision-making:
Encourage positive choices, problem-solving, and responsible decision-making in everyday situations.
Social and communication skills:
Support the development of respectful communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.
Positive activities and engagement:
Encourage participation in constructive recreational, educational, or community-based activities.
Community connection:
Help youth connect with appropriate community resources and supportive activities that reinforce growth and stability. Experience/Skills/Abilities/Knowledge Verifiable experience with youth and children required Must meet with the youth and their family in their home and/or community on a weekly basis Must maintain weekly progress notes Must collaborate and communicate effectively with all treatment team members (e.g. family, care manager, school, behavior assistant, etc.) Must provide a summary of services to the care manager prior to scheduled child and family team meetings that are held every 60-90 days Requirements 18 years of age Bachelor's Degree Complete fingerprinting and background check (fingerprinting - free to candidate) A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable, registered and insured vehicle.
