PURPOSE The Vice President for Student Affairs serves as the College's chief student affairs officer and a member of thePresident's executive leadership team. The Vice President provides strategic vision, executive leadership, and administrative oversight fora comprehensive portfolio of programs and services that advance student success, belonging, well-being, leadership development, careerreadiness, and campus safety. The position leads Band, Campus Ministry, Campus Security, Career Services, Student Health Services, ResidenceLife, Student Activities, and Student Support Services. Working collaboratively across the College, the Vice President ensures that thestudent experience reflects Texas College's mission, values, faith-based heritage, and commitment to developing informed, ethical, andengaged leaders.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide executive leadership for the Division of Student Affairs andtranslate the College's mission and strategic priorities into clear divisional goals, policies, programs, and measurableoutcomes. Advise the President and executive leadership team on student needs, campus climate, student well-being, risk, safety, andemerging issues affecting the student experience. Recruit, supervise, develop, and evaluate direct reports; establish performanceexpectations and cultivate a collaborative, accountable, service-oriented divisional culture. Lead strategic, operational,personnel, budget, facilities, and technology planning for the division; allocate resources responsibly and monitor expenditures, contracts,and revenue-producing operations. Develop and maintain a coordinated student success framework that strengthens persistence,completion, engagement, belonging, leadership development, and post-graduate preparation. Establish divisional assessment practicesand key performance indicators; use disaggregated data, student feedback, and national trends to evaluate effectiveness, address equitygaps, and guide continuous improvement. Ensure divisional policies, practices, records, and programs comply with applicable federaland state laws, accreditation expectations, College policy, and professional standards, including requirements related to Title IX, theClery Act, FERPA, ADA/Section 504, and campus safety. Coordinate institutional planning and response related to student crises,behavioral concerns, health and wellness issues, emergencies, and continuity of student services; participate in or lead response teams asassigned. Promote an inclusive and supportive campus environment that respects the dignity of every student and supports the successof a diverse, historically Black college community. Build productive partnerships with Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management,Athletics, Institutional Advancement, Finance and Administration, faculty, staff, alumni, families, community organizations, churches,employers, and public agencies. Communicate regularly with students through visible campus engagement, listening sessions, meetings,and other forums; ensure student perspectives inform institutional planning and decision-making. Prepare reports, presentations,policy recommendations, and updates for the President, Board of Trustees, executive leadership, regulators, accreditors, and otherstakeholders as requested. Serve on institutional committees and represent Texas College in professional, civic, community, andintercollegiate settings. Provide executive leadership for major campus traditions, student programs, ceremonies, and specialevents; maintain an appropriate presence during evening and weekend activities. Perform other duties as assigned by thePresident.
AREAS OF OVERSIGHT
Band:
Provide strategic oversight of the College band program, includingstudent recruitment and retention, performance excellence, staffing, travel, equipment, scholarships, budgets, risk management, andcoordination with Athletics, Enrollment Management, and campus events.
Campus Ministry:
Advance the College's faith-basedmission through worship, spiritual development, pastoral support, service, and values-centered programming that welcomes and supports thecampus community.
Campus Security:
Ensure a comprehensive approach to campus safety, emergency preparedness, incidentresponse, crime prevention, security operations, training, and required reporting in partnership with institutional and public-safetystakeholders.
Career Services:
Lead career readiness, experiential learning, employer engagement, internships, graduate andprofessional school preparation, and outcome tracking to strengthen students' transition from college to career.
Student HealthServices:
Ensure accessible, responsive, and student-centered health promotion and clinical services; support public-healthpreparedness, referrals, privacy, records, and collaborative wellness education.
Residence Life:
Oversee residentialeducation, housing operations, occupancy, assignments, facilities coordination, crisis response, staff development, community standards, andprograms that support student learning and belonging.
Student Activities:
Provide direction for student organizations,leadership development, campus programming, traditions, student government, fraternity and sorority life as assigned, and co-curricularengagement opportunities.
Student Support Services:
Coordinate proactive academic, personal, financial, accessibility, andretention-focused support, including effective referrals and case coordination, so students can navigate barriers and persist towardgraduation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Earned master's degree from an accredited institution in higher educationadministration, student affairs, counseling, educational leadership, public administration, or a closely related field; earned doctorate orterminal degree preferred. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in student affairs or arelated higher education area, including significant administrative, supervisory, and budget responsibility; cabinet-level or seniorexecutive experience preferred. Demonstrated record of advancing student success, retention, engagement, well-being, and inclusiveexcellence through collaborative and data-informed leadership. Experience leading multiple student-facing functional areas andmanaging complex operations, personnel, budgets, policies, crises, and organizational change. Experience at a historically Blackcollege or university, faith-based institution, small private college, or similarly mission-driven environment is stronglypreferred. A record of sound judgment, integrity, discretion, and effective response to sensitive student matters and institutionalrisk.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Comprehensive knowledge of studentdevelopment theory, current higher education practices, student success strategies, and issues affecting today's collegestudents. Working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including Title IX, the Clery Act, FERPA, ADA/Section 504, theDrug-Free Schools and Communities Act, and other student affairs compliance requirements. Exceptional leadership, supervision,change-management, conflict-resolution, crisis-management, and organizational-development skills. Strong financial acumen and theability to develop, prioritize, administer, and assess complex budgets and resources. Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, andpublic-speaking skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, families, employees, trustees, alumni, communitypartners, and public officials. Ability to build trust, foster collaboration across institutional divisions, and lead effectively ina culturally diverse environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret data, assessoutcomes, anticipate risk, and make timely decisions. Demonstrated commitment to student-centered service, ethical leadership,confidentiality, accountability, and the mission and faith-based heritage of Texas College. Ability to manage competing priorities,respond calmly under pressure, and maintain visibility and accessibility throughout the campus community. Proficiency withcontemporary administrative, communication, assessment, and student information technologies.
