  • Job closing September 24, 2026) Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Early Learning Coalition of Seminole (Coalition), the Director of Communications will assist with the development, management, coordination and implementation of communication and community outreach activities related to the programs and activities of the Early Learning Coalition of Seminole.
The Director of Communications is expected to have strong initiative, the ability to make judgments and decisions independently, and knowledge of all regulations and policies that govern departmental operation in compliance with the Coalition's policies and procedures as required by the Coalition Grant Agreement with the Division of Early Learning (DEL) and other funding entities. This position calls for proficiency with communications technology, software and databases, including content management systems (specifically WordPress); ensuring organizational alignment with strategic communications and brand standards; strong organizational skills; attention to detail; and exceptional written, verbal and public speaking skills. This position will be expected to perform a variety of administrative functions necessary for the department's day-to-day operations. The Director of Communications service functions are performed in person utilizing secure email, letters, telephone, and the Division of Early Learning Coalition Services Portal. The successful candidate must possess a professional demeanor and exemplary interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
Essential Duties:
Design, develop and execute website infrastructure, application, and navigation, including redesigns and upgrades on the website. Collaborate with designer to maximize visual impact of copy concepts and campaigns. Monitor performance of website and all social media pages, ensuring that all information is accurate, current and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Craft engaging content across platforms:
press releases, newsletters, funder reports, social media, presentations, and event collateral. Distribute relevant information and news releases to media and stakeholders, acting as alternate spokesperson for all language print and electronic media when applicable. Develop concepts, create and design all collateral and promotional materials according to Coalition brand standards, including flyers, posters, press releases, public service announcements, charts, graphs, illustrations, info graphics, direct mail, ads, postcards, newsletters, invitations, tags, bookplates, awards and other artwork. Manage photography duties for unique events as needed. Maintains photo archive and graphic files, overseeing policies for distribution to media and staff. Confer with staff to discuss and determine layout design of internal and external communications, in compliance with DEL and other grant funder regulations. Research a variety of topics such as but not limited to, early childhood issues, legislative sessions and developmental issues. Conduct regular file audits to ensure the information in the archive is complete and in full compliance and any other requirements of funding sources as needed. For example, Division of Early Learning grant and other funder requirements related to the local website. Provide daily supervision, train and direct the Community Outreach staff in all aspects of job accountability and regulations, including leading meetings, conducting training and presentations, coach and counsel direct reports as necessary to improve/maintain performance. Advise and support management in planning, developing and managing communication activities including public/government/ media relations and community outreach. Assist with grant writing responsibilities including research, writing, production, delivery, donor cultivation and stewardship, and other fundraising related activities. Fostering relationships with community leaders, donors, alumni, educators, students/parents and partner organizations. Attend all meetings/in-service training, community outreach and Coalition sponsored events, assisting in the evening and on weekends, as needed. Ensure activities are completed following Florida Statutes, Administrative Code, state and local policies and procedures, and ensure consistency and proper use of OCA codes. Responsible for reporting immediately to management of any suspected fraud, misrepresentation, any irregularity and suspected irregularity involving employees, providers and/or families served through School Readiness/Voluntary Pre-K, Providers, Contractors and any other parties with a business relationship, direct or indirect, with the Coalition. Responsible for reporting to the Florida Abuse Hotline when known or have reasonable cause to suspect that a child or a vulnerable adult has been abused, abandoned, neglected, or exploited. By telephone 1-800-ABUSE (1-800-962-2873). Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Coalition while maintaining elevated levels of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint and Outlook) Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat Professional, Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator Dream Weaver)
Additional Platforms:
WordPress; Canva Visual Suite; YouTube; Facebook; Instagram; LinkedIn. Familiarity with different graphics formats. Any other software as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities : The Director of Communications will supervise the Community Outreach Coordinator, and provide direct oversight and management of departmental schedules, staff time and attendance, and travel reimbursements. Establishes meeting times, documents actions, delegating assignments as needed, coordinates pooling of resources, such as staff. Ensure direct reports meet requirements of responsibilities as stated in their job description and provide performance review input to CEO. Update CEO regularly on staff issues.
Qualifications :
REQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Relations, Social Work, or related discipline. A minimum of seven (7) years of work experience in Public Administration, Public Relations, Social Work, or related discipline. Advanced computer and software skills, including high proficiency with:
  • Content management systems: WordPress
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint and Outlook),
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat Professional, Photoshop, in Design, Illustrator Dream Weaver),
  • Additional Platforms (Canva Visual Suite, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
Ability to work flexible hours to ensure project and deadline completion, with occasional evening and weekend hours required.
Exceptional communication abilities:
verbally, in writing, and public speaking skills. Must be willing to travel within and out of Seminole County to perform required tasks and provide own reliable transportation. Must have a valid Florida driver's license, a good driving record, automobile insurance, and access to a vehicle for regular local travel, as needed. Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining satisfactory: Level II Background Check Drug Test E-Verify Educational Verification Possession of valid Florida's Driver's License; and Ability to maintain Florida's Driver's License throughout employment required.
PREFERRED
Knowledge of early learning systems and family and community benefits. Knowledge of state database system is beneficial. Ability to speak, interpret and translate Spanish. Effective organization, multi-tasking, time management, collaboration and analytical skills. Familiarity with early learning community in Seminole County.
