Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced City Superintendent to lead and oversee all municipal construction, infrastructure projects, and maintenance operations within our city. The City Superintendent is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the daily operations of the City's Public Works Department. This includes oversight of streets, parks, sanitation, stormwater systems, public facilities, and other municipal intrastructure. The Superintendent provides leadership to Public Works employees, oversees City projects, manages departmental budgets, and works closely with elected officials, engineers, contractors, and the public. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct and supervise all Public Works operations and personnel. Plan, assign, and oversee maintenance of: City streets and alleys Storm sewer systems Parks and recreational facilities Public buildings and grounds City-owned equipment and vehicles Coordinate snow and ice removal operations. Oversee refuse, brush collection, and related public services. Manage capital improvement and infrastructure projects from planning through completion. Coordinate projects with engineers, contractors, utility companies, and government agencies. Develop department budgets and monitor expenditures. Order equipment, materials, and supplies. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Public Works employees. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety policies, and City ordinances. Attend City Council and committee meetings as requested. Respond to citizen concerns and provide professional customer service. Maintain records, reports, and departmental documentation. Participate in emergency response operations and be available for after-hours emergencies. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor Degree preferred. Five years of progressively responsible experience in public works, construction, utilities, or municipal operations. Supervisory experience preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of municipal public works operations. Knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair practices. Ability to supervise employees and coordinate multiple projects. Ability to read plans, specifications, and engineering drawings. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prepare budgets and maintain accurate records. Ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, elected officials, and the public. Licenses and Certifications Valid Illinois Driver's License required. Physical Requirements Ability to perform field inspections and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to respond to emergency situations during evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary. Working Conditions Work is performed in both office and outdoor environments with exposure to weather, traffic, construction sites, and operating equipment.

Pay:

$80,000.00 - $99,000.00 per year
