Job Description
The City of Hallsville is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Assistant. This position supports the Public Works Superintendent and participates in the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and operation of the City's infrastructure, including the water system, streets, parks, City buildings and facilities, and equipment. The position involves a combination of manual labor, equipment operation, maintenance, and repair work. The successful applicant should be dependable, willing to learn, able to work effectively as part of a team, and committed to providing quality services to the community. Starting wage is dependent upon experience. Work Schedule Regular working hours will generally be 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday . The Public Works Assistant may be required to work varying hours, including outside of the regular work schedule, as directed by the Public Works Superintendent and/or City Administrator due to emergencies, weather events, water system issues, or other situations requiring an immediate response. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to: Assist with the maintenance and repair of City streets, sidewalks, signs, and related infrastructure. Assist with the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water system and related infrastructure. Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, vehicles, machinery, and light-to-heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner. Perform routine maintenance and repairs of City-owned buildings, facilities, grounds, and other property. Assist with the maintenance, repair, cleanup, and general upkeep of City parks and public areas. Respond to service requests and work orders as assigned by the Public Works Superintendent. Assist with snow and ice removal, storm and debris cleanup, and other emergency response activities. Maintain safe and orderly work sites and follow applicable workplace and equipment safety procedures. Perform routine inspection, cleaning, and preventative maintenance of City vehicles, tools, and equipment. Follow instructions and work cooperatively and effectively with supervisors, other City employees, contractors, and members of the public. Perform other duties as assigned by the Public Works Superintendent and City Administrator.
