Role and Scope of Responsibility:
This is an armed position directly responsible for the overall security and safety of all Ranken locations including employees, students and visitors, and physical assets and properties of Ranken Technical College. Responsible for risk management, loss prevention, and a campus free from criminal incidents. Manages and advises all Public Safety employees. Leads a high performing secruity team.
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Ensures the security and safety of all Ranken locations. Manages and schedules both Ranken shift supervisors and contract officers. Ensures all surveillance equipment and campus alarms, both fire and intrusion, are continually monitored for all locations. Maintains equipment and ensures surveillance, alarms, and emergency communication equipment are in good working order. Adjusts (re-focuses, cleans) equipment as needed. Submits work orders for items beyond expertise. Creates and implements campus safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety and security issues and recommends and implements solutions. Creates and maintains emergency manuals for all locations. Conducts annual training for faculty, staff, and students on emergency procedures, including active shooter. Serves as the primary contact for St. Louis for first aid during day shift. Maintains parking permits, campus keys, IDs, door access control, and related systems. Handles traffic and parking situations. Ensures all security needs are met for special events. Manages, mentors, and coaches the security officer team in the performance of their duties. Coaches security officers on friendly and helpful customer service techniques as well as appropriate methods to deal with difficult people. Working with any security contractor, ensures sufficient security coverage on all shifts. Assists training all security officers. Takes corrective action as needed, either directly or through a contractor primary contact. Follows up on security and safety incidents that have occurred, reviews sequence of events to determine whether proper action was taken, and coaches security officers on any improvement in actions to be taken in the case of future incidents. Ensures incident reports are written, approved, and distributed to appropriate personnel within a reason time period, preferably within 24 hours. Performs administrative duties. Sets department policies. Manages the department budget, recommends, and implements cost-effective measures to secure the campus. Serves as the local law enforcement and emergency services liaison. Completes and submits any security reporting to all appropriate state and federal government agencies. Writes and submits annual Clery Report. Experience with firearms. Must be able to be licensed to carry a firearm. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge/Education -
Required:
Associate degree in law enforcement or related discipline or equivalent relevant experience. Knowledge of effective management practices including hiring, training, and motivating staff of six to ten security officers. Effective customer service and communication skills. Ability to use sound judgment and decision-making skills, especially in emergency or crisis situations. Ability to enforce policies for the safety and security of the campus. Good organizational and follow-through skills.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree and knowledge of effective campus security procedures. Computer skills helpful. Experience -
Required:
3-5 years' experience in law enforcement and corporate or campus security including supervisory experience. Demonstrated ability to facilitate and negotiate desired outcomes. Demonstrated ability to facilitate and communicate effectively with team members, college stakeholders, and surrounding community.
Preferred Experience:
10 years of demonstrated safety and security leadership or military expereience
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's degree in law enforcement or related field
Physical Requirements:
Required to stand, run, walk ,and sit; talk or hear, both in person, by Teams, and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls. May be required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and color. Note - Some evening and/or weekend hours will be required to participate in campus recruiting functions.
