Full Job Description Attorney and Chief Deputy Public Administrator General Purpose :
The St. Louis City Public Administrator's Office is seeking to fill a newly created position of Attorney and Chief Deputy Public Administrator. This position is responsible for representing the Public Administrator in matters before the Probate Division of the St. Louis City Circuit Court, assisting with overseeing the operations of the Public Administrator's Office, and serving in the Public Administrator's absence. Requires the use of personal judgment and discretion with a minimum of supervision.

Attorney and Chief Deputy Public Administrator Essential Job Functions:
Represents office and appears at hearings seeking appointment of Public Administrator, in contested matters, on claims of creditors, at pre-trial conferences and at administrative hearings before both State and Federal agencies. Handles legal matters including real estate litigation and sales, statutorily required notices, liability actions involving former fiduciaries, determination of title to property, heirship proceedings, preparation of legal documents and pleadings, legal research and briefing. Supervises estate administration from appointment through inventory, annual settlements and final distribution. Assists Guardianship Team members with decisions involving medical and mental health treatment, consents, contracts, leases, admission and restoration for more than 550 wards of the office including elderly, mentally ill, and developmentally disabled adults. Acts in the stead of Public Administrator to consent to major surgical procedures and "do not resuscitate" orders and hospice decisions for wards after weighing risks and benefits of proposed treatment in consultation with Guardianship Team and treating physician. Serves in the Public Administrator's absence.
