Executive Director Location:
Hybrid work requirement; office located at 3310 Lime Ave, Signal Hill Dramatic Results is an award-winning, nationally recognized arts education nonprofit serving historically excluded youth, with a focus on Title I elementary and middle schools throughout LA County. A seven-time U.S. Department of Education grantee, we reinvent the learning experience through collaborative, hands-on projects that support young people and educators.
The Opportunity:
Dramatic Results sustains roughly $1 million in annual revenue, much of it through competitive federal grants. In an unpredictable funding environment, we are diversifying our income streams to strengthen our long-term sustainability and ensure our work with young people and educators continues.
This role leads that effort:
selling our programs and professional development to schools and districts, growing foundation and corporate support, and maintaining our federal portfolio and national presence.
Leadership Pathway:
This is a leadership pathway role. Dramatic Results operates with a Co-Executive Director model, and we are hiring this position with the intention that the Senior Director will advance into the role of Co-Executive Director, Partnerships & Growth. For an initial period of approximately 18 to 24 months, the Senior Director will lead our revenue function, build hands-on experience in financial leadership and Board engagement, and work closely with the Executive Director, who serves as supervisor, coach, and leadership partner. Advancement is based on the milestones described below and a decision by the Board of Directors; it is an intended pathway rather than a guaranteed promotion. We encourage candidates to apply even if you don't meet every qualification. We are looking for a values-aligned leader who can build relationships, drive revenue growth, and is excited to grow into executive leadership through a structured, supported path.
Role Focus:
The Senior Director is the primary lead for revenue across three streams: earned revenue from school and district partnerships, foundation and corporate fundraising, and federal grants. The Senior Director shares financial planning with the Executive Director and takes on increasing ownership over time. Operations, including supervision of the Operations Specialist and vendor oversight, remains with the Executive Director during the pathway period and transitions as part of advancement. This role does not supervise program staff or own program design or evaluation; it stays connected to program implementation to inform partnerships, proposals, and organizational decision-making.
Primary Responsibilities Earned Revenue:
Programs & Professional Development:
Lead sales of Dramatic Results programs and professional development to schools, districts, and education partners, including STEAM+Theater programs, LMS-based professional development, and in-person professional development in Partnerships, Design for Belonging (SEL), and Human-Centered Design. Build and manage a school and district pipeline: identify decision-makers, pitch program models, scope and price services with the programs team, secure contracts, and renew agreements. Align offerings with how schools and districts fund arts and professional learning, including Proposition 28 (Arts and Music in Schools) site plans developed by principals, Title IV-A, and professional development budgets. Develop LMS-based offerings over time, beginning with pilot partnerships that test demand, pricing, and packaging, in coordination with the Executive Director, and consistent with federal requirements for materials developed with grant funds.
Foundation & Corporate Fundraising:
Grow foundation and corporate revenue from approximately $200,000 annually, contributing to the 24-month milestone of at least $300,000 in non-federal revenue and building toward the organization's longer-term goal of $550,000, through new prospects, larger gifts, and multi-year commitments. Lead proposals from prospect research through submission, reporting, and renewal; ensure quality, compliance, and on-time delivery. Partner with the Executive Director to translate program priorities and outcomes into accurate, funder-ready narratives. Build corporate sponsorships and partnerships, including program, event, and employee-engagement sponsorships, with clear recognition packages and stewardship. Identify opportunities to add individual giving as the revenue base grows.
Federal Grants & National Presence:
Maintain the federal grant portfolio: lead federal applications and continuation materials, with contract support as needed for federal competitions, and ensure budget compliance and on-time reporting in partnership with the Executive Director, who leads evaluation and program reporting. Monitor federal funding and policy changes and advise leadership and the Board on risks and opportunities. Strengthen Dramatic Results' national visibility through conference presentations, dissemination, and national partnerships, in collaboration with the Executive Director. Financial Planning (Shared, With Growing Ownership): Own revenue forecasting across all three streams and ensure pricing, contracts, and grant budgets align with strategy, capacity, and program realities. Co-develop the annual budget with the Executive Director and the bookkeeping/accounting partner, taking the lead role over the course of the pathway period. Contribute to monthly financial reporting, forecasting, and multi-year scenario planning for the Board, building fluency in cash flow, internal controls, and audit coordination.
Team & Board Leadership:
Manage revenue contractors, including a transitional contractor during the first year and contract support for federal competitions as needed, with clear scopes, deliverables, timelines, and budgets. Build and maintain revenue systems (CRM, pipeline, fundraising and sales calendar, and reporting) that give leadership and the Board a current, accurate view of revenue. Staff the Board's development committee, support Board members in their fundraising roles, and present revenue progress and risks at regular Board meetings. Ensure revenue practices and reporting reflect DEAI commitments, including accurate and respectful representation of the communities we serve. Leadership Pathway Milestones The Board will review progress toward Co-Executive Director, Partnerships & Growth, with input from the Executive Director.
Milestones include:
Completing the transition of funder relationships, pipeline, and revenue systems from the transitional contractor within the first year. Building and managing a revenue pipeline across all streams (federal, foundation, corporate, earned, and individual) capable of securing at least $1 million annually, including growing non-federal revenue from approximately $200,000 to at least $300,000 within 24 months to diversify the funding base. Securing paid school or district contracts for programs and professional development, including at least one renewal, establishing earned revenue as a proven stream. Securing federal continuation or new awards with on-time, compliant reporting. Leading an annual budget cycle and presenting the budget to the Board. Demonstrated fluency in monthly financial reporting, cash flow oversight, and audit coordination. Effective management of contractors, with clear scopes, deliverables, and budgets. A strong working partnership with the Executive Director, grounded in shared and equitable decision-making. Upon advancement, responsibility for operations, including supervision of the Operations Specialist and oversight of HR, finance, IT, insurance, and legal vendors, transitions according to a plan agreed upon with the Board.
What We Provide:
A structured onboarding plan; transitional support from an established contractor for most of the first year; revenue tools and support, including contract support as needed for federal competitions; weekly one-on-ones with the Executive Director; regular access to the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee; professional development support, if approved; quarterly progress conversations; and a formal milestone review at approximately 18 months.
Qualifications Required:
5+ years of progressive experience in revenue generation, education partnerships, or nonprofit development, including experience leading or supervising staff, contractors, or teams. Demonstrated success selling to or securing contracts with K-12 schools, districts, or comparable public-sector partners, including pitching, pricing, contracting, and renewals. Strong grant writing skills and a track record of securing foundation or government funding. Interest in growing into executive leadership and openness to coaching and feedback as part of a structured development path. Demonstrated ability to lead with an equity lens in hiring, partnerships, and communications. A track record of leadership and results through lived experience, community leadership, and/or professional roles. Strong written and verbal communication; confident relationship builder and collaborator. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; able to travel throughout LA County and occasionally out of state for conferences and programming, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed.
Preferred:
Federal grant experience, particularly with the U.S. Department of Education. Knowledge of California K-12 funding streams, including Proposition 28 and Title IV-A. Experience selling professional development, education services, or LMS/ed-tech products. Experience with budgeting and forecasting beyond grant budgets, and presenting to a Board or Board committee. Formal people-management experience with direct reports. Experience in arts, education, or youth development organizations, and familiarity with SEL or human-centered design. Day in the

It's Wednesday, and you're balancing this month's deals with next year's plan. You start with a call to a district arts coordinator who is planning how to use their Proposition 28 allocation, walking through how a Design for Belonging professional development series and a spring STEAM+Theater residency could fit. Next, you meet with a foundation program officer to share early results and explore a multi-year gift. At midday, you sit down with your ED to compare the revenue forecast against the budget and plan for the years ahead.
