Job Summary The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Texas at Tyler is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Public Administration to teach in the online Masters of Public Administration program to begin August 16, 2027. Duties include teaching a 3/3 course-load, active scholarship agenda, and service to the university and local community. The Department of Social Sciences incorporates Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Economics, Geography, Social Work, Sociology and Public Administration. In addition to the Masters of Public Administration, the Department has a Criminal Justice Master of Science degree. Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks Development and implementation of graduate courses in public administration. Responsible for recruiting and retaining graduate students. Faculty members at UT Tyler are expected to be outstanding teachers and scholars and able to demonstrate a commitment to service to the community and university. Additional expectations include academic advising, academic programming and assessment, service to the university, and continued professional development. Other duties as assigned. Required Education/Experience PhD in Public Administration or related discipline from an accredited university (ABD is acceptable to apply but must have the degree awarded by August 16, 2027). Ability to teach online graduate courses in Public Administration. Evidence of teaching in an accredited community college and/or university setting or similar experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently. Skills and confidence with technology. Preferred Education and Experience Previous professional experience in the field of Public Administration. Ability to teach courses that may be cross-listed with the Criminal Justice discipline. Strong commitment to excellence in graduate education. Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies Experience in instructional design and course development, including online teaching and active learning strategies. Ability to develop and maintain effective and constructive collaborative relationships with faculty and administration throughout the university. Record of professional activities related to public administration and education. Support of University's strategic plan. Additional Information The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
