September 2026 ORGANIZATION Mason EDC promotes the economic vitality and growth of Mason County by cultivating partnership among industry, government, labor, and education. The organization works to recruit new business investment, retain and expand existing employers, and support entrepreneurs, while encouraging quality job opportunities and preserving the county's environmental and community character. As the state designated Associate Development Organization (ADO) for Mason County and a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization. It is governed by a Board of Directors that draws together public officials and private sector leaders, operating with the independence of the private sector while carrying out a publicly designated economic development role.
GENERAL FUNCTION
The Executive Director serves as Mason EDC's chief strategist, spokesperson, and organizational leader. The role calls for a strong strategic planner who can translate the Board's priorities into action, a skilled convener and collaborator who brings business, government, and community partners to the same table. The ideal candidate is a creative, solutions-oriented problem solver comfortable pursuing new opportunities on behalf of Mason County. The Executive Director serves as the primary communication link between the Board of Directors and Mason EDC's staff. The Executive Director is expected to be proactive and entrepreneurial in identifying opportunities for Mason County's economic growth, bringing the energy of a recruiter to attract new investment, talent, and partnerships. The role is also responsible for leading and developing Mason EDC's staff, ensuring the organization has the internal capacity and culture needed to carry out its mission.
JOB DUTIES & OBJECTIVES
Leads the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of Mason EDC's strategic plan, including business retention, expansion, and recruitment initiatives. Serves as Mason County's principal liaison connecting local businesses, prospective investors, government partners, and community organizations. Regularly interacts with elected officials, government staff, business leaders, and community members, including situations where relationships or priorities may be challenging to navigate. Functions as the local economic development administrator for grant-funded programs, guiding the pursuit, management, and compliance reporting associated with state, federal, and foundation funding. Provides pro-business policy advisory and advocacy on behalf of Mason County businesses and partner agencies at the local, regional, and state level, including legislative priorities. Leads market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and barriers to growth across the county's core industries, as well as emerging sectors. Ensures compliance with Mason EDC's 501(c)(6) obligations, funding agreements, procurement policy, and organizational bylaws. Partners with accounting staff and the Finance Committee to provide timely financial reporting to the Board and to develop an annual budget that supports the organization's long-term fiscal sustainability. Recruits new members and leads fundraising initiatives to meet operational expenses. Negotiates contracts and partnership agreements on behalf of the organization. Maintains confidentiality of restricted or private information and records and effectively handles sensitive matters. Communicates regularly with the Board of Directors, ensuring a clear understanding of current finances, projects, and programs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises Mason EDC staff across its core functions, including business development, external affairs, program management, and accounting, along with any part-time staff, contractors, and interns. Sets clear expectations, provides regular feedback, and conducts performance evaluations. Builds a collaborative, growth-oriented team culture. Oversees hiring, onboarding, and staff development planning. Delegates program and project responsibilities appropriately.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of nonprofit budgeting, accounting principles, and federal funding compliance requirements. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in business management, public administration, economic development, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may substitute for formal education. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in economic development or community development, including experience in an executive-level role. Demonstrated experience in fiscal and contract management, nonprofit finance, and procurement policy. The Economic Development Council of Mason County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Pay:
$110,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
