We are an established Bay Area retail custom picture framing company looking for an Assistant Buyer / Merchandiser to join our team in Oakland. This is a hands-on position for someone who is highly organized, enjoys working with products, and has a good eye for color and design. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable working with merchandise and samples as they are working with spreadsheets, purchase orders, inventory, and vendors. What You'll Do Assist with purchasing retail merchandise, picture framing materials, and supplies. Prepare and maintain purchase orders Communicate with vendors regarding orders, pricing, availability, backorders, and new products Monitor inventory and assist with reordering Help select and evaluate new products and merchandise Maintain product descriptions, costs, pricing, and other item information Review sales and inventory information to identify strong and slow-selling products Coordinate new products, discontinued items, and merchandise changes with our retail stores Organize and maintain frame samples, vendor catalogs, price lists, and product information Assist with merchandising and product presentation Resolve order discrepancies, shortages, damages, and other vendor issues Work closely with our Buyer, retail stores, and production staff What We're Looking For Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Strong computer skills, including Excel Comfortable working with numbers and analyzing basic sales and inventory information A good eye for color, design, and product presentation Ability to juggle multiple projects and follow through Good written and verbal communication skills Comfortable working independently as well as with a team POS System, purchasing, merchandising, inventory, retail, or picture framing experience is a plus Previous buying experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train someone with the right combination of organizational ability, good judgment, computer skills, and an interest in design and merchandising. This is a full-time, in-person position based in Oakland . Compensation depends on experience.
