We are a non-profit leader creating sustainable homeownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income families by developing affordable housing, providing first-time homebuyer education, and counselling, and making home loans to qualified buyers. Position Summary:
The Mortgage Operations Assistant supports all aspects of the Buyer Readiness Fund (BRF) program, which provides eligible prospective homebuyers with affordability. This position acts as the first contact for program applicants and lenders and is responsible for all Buyer Readiness Fund files from application to disbursement. This position is responsible for the intake of application packages, accurate data entry, reviewing loan documents based on program guidelines, issuing decisions, tracking grant status, confirming wire instructions and escrow balancing, and escalating to Credit Risk Manager as needed. This position also supports the daily functions of the Mortgage Operations team by ensuring timely and accurate processing of loan files from application through closing. This includes but is not limited to preparing disclosure packages, managing rate locks, ordering third-party services, and providing operational support to Mortgage Loan Originators and Mortgage Operations staff. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Buyer Readiness Fund duties: Work closely with marketing and business relations team to ensure smooth referral handoff for BRF program. Collect BRF applications and review loan file to ensure eligibility per program requirements. Gather additional documentation as needed, including but not limited to order outs, and verifications of employment and rent. Stay current on underwriting updates for BRF program and other internal and external loan programs, such as FNMA/Freddie Mac programs, state bond, FHA and HomeSight purchase assist programs. Other duties as assigned as directed by the Credit Risk Manager.
Mortgage Operations Assistant duties:
Order and track third-party services, including: Collect Appraisal payments Send appraisal invoices after funding Maintain accurate loan file documentation within the loan origination system. Pull documents from Salesforce and create loan files for Mortgage Loan Originators. Provide administrative and operational support to the Loan Operations team. Serve as backup to the Loan Originator Assistant when needed. Under the direction of the Loan Operations Manager, provide backup to other loan operations areas and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent Four (4) years of experience in mortgage lending, including loan documentation review and loan processing Knowledge of mortgage lending policies, procedures and regulation, including
TRID & RESPA
guidelines Basic math skills Familiarity with loan origination systems (Encompass experience required) Able to with a strong sense of urgency and responsiveness Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills Excellent analytical abilities, interpersonal, oral/written communication skills and problem-solving abilities Ability to work independently with little supervision Experience working with diverse populations and providing customer service Integrity and confidentiality when it comes to handling sensitive information Demonstrated patience and professionalism when interacting with both internal and external customers Strong computer and data entry skills and ability to learn new software systems quickly Proficiency MS Office 365; experience with customer management systems and PDF software programs Desire to be part of a team environment and go the extra mile when needed
Preferred:
One (1) year experience in mortgage underwriting Experience with Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS)
