Job Description

Mercans is seeking an experienced payroll professional to manage Danish payroll services for international clients. This role owns the monthly payroll cycle, statutory reporting, client communication, and operational controls required for accurate and reliable delivery in Denmark. Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Danish payroll from data collection through calculation, review, approval, and release.
  • Validate employee changes, earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, and statutory contributions.
  • Reconcile Gross-to-Net calculations, payment files, and accounting outputs before final submission.
  • Maintain payroll calendars and ensure all client and regulatory deadlines are met.
  • Prepare year-end reports and support Danish statutory filings and audits.
  • Monitor local legislative changes and update payroll procedures and controls.
  • Investigate payroll discrepancies and provide clients with clear, timely resolutions.
  • Track service requests and escalate issues that could affect payroll delivery.
  • Keep client-specific procedures, controls, and audit records complete and current.
  • Support new-client implementation, payroll testing, Hypercare, and operational handover.
  • Identify opportunities to automate validations, reconciliations, and recurring tasks.
  • Train backup colleagues to ensure uninterrupted client service. Client Service and Governance
  • Act as the main contact for assigned Danish payroll clients.
  • Provide clear updates on payroll progress, deadlines, issues, and resolutions.
  • Ensure delivered services remain within the agreed contractual scope.
  • Review service performance, ticket trends, and improvement opportunities with clients.
  • Coordinate approved changes with Implementation, Account Management, and Client Success teams. Requirements
  • At least five years of payroll operations, outsourced payroll, or payroll consulting experience.
  • Practical knowledge of Danish payroll and local statutory requirements.
  • Experience supporting international clients in a multi-country environment.
  • Strong reconciliation, compliance, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent English communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
  • Ability to manage several payroll deadlines independently in a remote setting.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to confidential data handling.
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Professional payroll certification is an advantage. Success Measures
  • Maintain payroll accuracy of at least 99.7%.
  • Deliver every payroll cycle by the agreed deadline.
  • Complete all statutory submissions accurately and on time.
  • Resolve at least 95% of service tickets within SLA.
  • Keep all assigned-client documentation complete and validated.
  • Train at least one backup resource for each client within six months.
  • Reduce payroll processing time through automation and workflow improvements.
  • Maintain strong client satisfaction through proactive communication and dependable delivery.
