Orthopedic Specialists of SW Florida is seeking an individual to assume the role of Surgery Scheduler.

Orthopedic Specialists of SW Florida has been a cornerstone of orthopedic care in the Fort Myers area for over 24 years. Our practice boasts a team of 18 fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons specializing in various subspecialties. We are committed to excellence and continued growth, offering comprehensive services including onsite Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy, MRI, and digital X-ray. We prioritize patient care and strive for the highest standards of service. Orthopedic Specialists of SW Florida's state-of-the-art, 60,000 square-foot facility incorporates the latest in leading-edge technology in order to provide optimal care for patients who have bone, joint, muscle and spine problems. Our office includes a full Physical Therapy and Occupational/Hand Therapy division, which work in close coordination with our physicians to provide non-operative, preoperative, post-operative and preventive care.
Job Summary :
Schedule patient surgery. To schedule new and established patient appointments. This position will have unrestricted access to protected health information (PHI) pertaining to their patients.
Essential Functions :
Admit patients to exam rooms, ensuring accurate medical documentation Identify patient's chief complaint and prepare them for doctor visits Perform various medical procedures, including wound care and suture removal Schedule surgeries, physical therapy, and order necessary tests Coordinate closely with hospitals and surgery centers for surgery bookings Obtain medical clearances, prior history, and verify medications Secure prior authorizations for upcoming surgeries Maintain a detailed surgery schedule and communicate details to patients Handle patient calls, prescriptions, and education of procedures Ensure cleanliness and organization of examination rooms
Core Competences:
Responsible for promoting the Standards of Excellence for Orthopedic Specialists while demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior toward patients, visitors, volunteers, peers and physicians Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize work during heavy workload situations to expedite patient care Maintain strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments Work independently while understanding the need to communicate and coordinate work efforts with other employees and organizations
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year healthcare experience with surgery scheduling Strong organizational skills Minimum Requirements (education, experience, special skills and licenses or certifications required): Computer Literate - Windows environment Ability to perform essential duties as assigned Ability to clearly communicate written and verbal instructions Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and prioritize Ability to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette Knowledge of OSHA requirements Knowledge of medical terminology, equipment, procedures, instruments and common safety hazards and precautions
Essential Physical Functions:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients at times; Standing and walking for extensive periods of time Occasional lifting, carrying supplies, squatting, and bending Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, calculator and other office equipment as necessary Ability to view computer screens for long periods of time
