Senior Planner City of West Palm Beach - 3.7 West Palm Beach, FL Job Details Full-time $78,985 - $98,739 a year 8 hours ago Qualifications Class E Full Job Description Under general direction, performs highly responsible work in conducting research to develop and update elements of the City of West Palm Beach Comprehensive Plan. Writes reports, analyzes development-related data and plans and provides input on neighborhood, site and master plans and design guidelines. Makes presentations to advisory committees, the public, City Commission, and neighborhood meetings. Performs routine processing of applications and file maintenance related to landscape plans and site plans, can include inspection of projects for compliance with approved landscape and site plans and enforcement of regulations pertaining to tree removal and landscape maintenance and performs other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Which are not in any hierarchical order) 1. Analyzes development related data and plans, and prepares and presents recommendations on variances and Class B Special Use Permit requests to the City's Zoning Board of Appeals, and presents recommendations to the City Planning Board and City Commission on requests for major subdivision of land, Class A Special Use, Developments of Significant Impact, rezoning of land, land use plan changes, and make recommendations on minor and major amendments to the Planned Developments and Level I Site Plan Approvals. In addition to analyzing development-related landscape date and plans. 2. Prepares planning-related reports, documents and agenda for City of West Palm Beach officials, Committees, Boards and other agencies and organizations. 3. Responds to planning-related inquiries from the general public and other agencies and organizations. 4. Prepares amendments for code compliance, maps and graphics presentations for the department. 5. Participates and coordinates processing activities with other agencies relative to Request for Proposals, and corresponding completed plans and bids. 6. Assists in preparing and administering annual planning grants applications, updates other plans for compliance with Federal, State and other applicable regulations. 7. Monitors and provides assistance to the Downtown Action Committee, the Planning Board, and the Planning Board of Appeals. 8. Reviews and makes recommendations for building permit applications and occupational licenses. 9. Provides input pertaining to landscape components in neighborhoods, site and master plans and design guidelines. 10. Performs fieldwork and research for both current planning and comprehensive planning. 11. May supervise staff as assigned. 12. Prepares landscape design guidelines for code implementation. 13. Assist the City with capital improvements projects and other landscaping concerns. 14. Coordinates with State agencies regarding both policies and procedures as they relate to the City on landscape issues. 15. Assist Code Enforcement with landscape code issues. 16. Coordinates with the City's Resiliency & Climate Change Division concerning sustainability initiatives and projects for the City. Salary Depending on qualifications the starting salary for this position will be in the range of (Pay Grade 69): Minimum Range Midpoint Range $78,985 $98,739 Excellent Benefits! Qualifications Master's degree with a major in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field (education will be verified using the "Education Requirements" listed below) and three (3) years of experience in a planning environment is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Bachelor's Degree with a major in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field (education will be verified using the "Education Requirements" listed below) and five (5) years of experience in a planning environment is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A current and valid Florida driver's license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver's license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.
Education Requirements :
To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by: a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or d) an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a, b or c above for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a, b, or c above. International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
