Job Description

Temporary Finance & Operations Assistant Part-time, short-term | Northampton, MA | $25-28/hour Grounds for Health is a small, international nonprofit expanding access to cervical cancer screening and treatment in coffee-growing communities, with staff working remotely in the United States, Ethiopia, and Kenya. We need a detail-oriented person with strong Excel skills to help complete our year-end finance and compliance projects. You will work side-by-side with our Executive Director, in person, two days per week with potential to increase hours if needed. Our accountant handles all bookkeeping entries in QuickBooks. This role reviews QuickBooks reports and builds Excel analyses showing the accountant what to correct, reallocate, or enter. In addition to financial tasks, you will support compliance and operational excellence. What You'll Do FY2025 audit: complete auditor questionnaires and compile supporting documentation. FY2026 year-end review: run QuickBooks reports and identify expenses that are miscoded by class, grant, or account; document corrections in Excel for the accountant.
Allocations and grant costs:
build spreadsheets that reallocate benefits and shared costs across classes and summarize grant expenses.
Charitable registrations:
review and renew annual charitable solicitation registrations in the states where we receive donations.
Other compliance:
compile documentation for 401(k) plan annual reporting and for our in-country lawyers to close our NGO registration in Kenya.
Operations projects:
as time allows, support short-term projects such as reviewing insurance coverage, researching online giving platforms, and organizing account access across the organization. What You Bring Advanced Excel skills (lookups, SUMIFS, pivot tables) and the ability to build clear spreadsheets others can act on. Experience running and reading QuickBooks reports (for example, profit and loss by class or transaction detail). Experience entering transactions is not required. Comfort with budgets and financial reports. Experience with nonprofit or grant-funded budgets is a strong plus. Careful attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, and clear writing.
Logistics Schedule:
two days (16 hours) per week, starting as soon as possible for five to six weeks. There is potential to extend the weekly hours or the length of employment for ongoing part-time work, based on organizational needs.
Location:
in person at a shared workspace in Northampton, MA.
Pay:
