School Year Hours:
Monday-Thursday 2:30pm-7:30pm & Friday 2:30pm-6:00pm
Summer Hours:
Monday-Thursday 10:45am-5:15pm
Pay:
$15 an hour
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Club Operations Assistant supports the daily operations of The Boys & Girls Club by helping ensure members and program staff have a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment. This position provides support in a variety of operational areas, including transportation, meal and snack service, basic cleaning and facility upkeep, supply restocking, and other day-to-day Club needs. The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, flexible, and able to recognize what needs to be done and take initiative without requiring constant direction.
KEY ROLES
(Essential Job Responsibilities): Safely transport Club members from schools to the Club and to other approved locations as assigned. Transport food, supplies, equipment, or other materials between Club locations and program sites as needed. Follow all organizational vehicle, transportation, and member safety policies. Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Ensure vehicles are kept clean, fueled, and ready for use. Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting food, supplies, and equipment. Assist with preparation, setup, distribution, and cleanup of meals and snacks. Follow all food safety, sanitation, temperature control, and handling requirements. Maintain required ServSafe certification and follow all applicable food-service procedures. Clean and sanitize food-service areas, tables, counters, carts, equipment, and other surfaces following meal and snack service. Assist with dishes and other food-service cleanup as needed. Restock food-service supplies and notify the appropriate staff member when supplies are running low. Complete basic daily cleaning tasks to help maintain a safe, sanitary, and welcoming Club environment. Restock restroom supplies, including toilet paper, paper towel, soap, and other necessary items. Respond promptly to spills, messes, and other cleaning needs. Monitor common areas for cleanliness and address needs as they arise. Assist with basic setup and cleanup for Club programs, meetings, events, and rentals as assigned. Although the Club Operations Assistant is not primarily responsible for leading youth programs, all Boys & Girls Club employees contribute to creating a safe and positive environment for members.
The Club Operations Assistant will:
Demonstrate a genuine commitment to the safety and well-being of children and teens. Treat members with kindness, patience, dignity, and respect. Model appropriate behavior and professionalism whenever interacting with members. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with youth. Follow all organizational policies related to member safety and supervision. Remain alert to safety concerns and immediately communicate concerns to Club leadership. Be willing to assist Club staff during emergencies or other situations affecting member safety.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with Club leadership, program staff, Food Service staff, and other employees.
  • Be flexible and willing to shift between responsibilities based on the needs of the Club.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and safety training.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding members, families, employees, and organizational information.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in food service, custodial work, transportation, facilities, schools, youth-serving organizations, or a similar environment is helpful but not required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet organizational driving requirements.
  • Safe driving record and ability to safely operate organizational vehicles.
  • ServSafe certification required or ability to obtain certification within a designated timeframe after hire.
  • Ability to follow food safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Ability to safely use basic cleaning products, supplies, and equipment.
  • Strong dependability and work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks without continuous supervision.
  • Ability to recognize tasks that need attention and take appropriate initiative.
  • Willingness to perform a wide variety of duties and adjust priorities as needs change.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, safety, and organization.
  • Positive attitude toward children and teens and a commitment to supporting the mission of The Boys & Girls Club.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIORNMENT

The employee must remain physically fit enough to keep children safe in an emergency. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to perform certain duties. The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office setting to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present. All employees working directly with children at all Boys & Girls Club of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth locations may be required to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions.
