The purpose of the Surgery Counselor position is to facilitate the surgery scheduling process in a seamless and efficient manner for patients and doctors. This position serves as the liaison between patient, surgeon, and facility. Job Duties include : Communicate with patients to counsel them regarding surgery type, planning, scheduling, financial impacts, insurance coverage and surgery center requirements. Transcribe patient experience to their chart to verify the encounter. Coordinate surgery schedules with the surgery centers, physician, and clinic. Prepare and distribute surgery packets to patients. Verify patient's insurance eligibility, obtain prior authorization, and help with patient assistance forms, if necessary. Schedule individual surgery cases with the surgery center. Maintain surgery schedules and increase or decrease surgery space as needed. Dispense and record surgery drops and other medications that are required. Drops may be mailed, sent to the pharmacy, or be available in clinic for patient pick up. Verify that signed patient consent forms have been received prior to surgery. Collect payment for upgraded premium lens. Answer surgery scheduling line phone as needed. Respond to patient questions and concerns in person, via email or via telephone. Maintain consistent communication with the physician and other staff regarding the patient's pending surgery. Calculations for specialty IOLs. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. We are looking for candidates who have : High school diploma or equivalent Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in surgery scheduling or a health care setting. Prior experience with medical terminology, insurance plans, and customer service. Ability to travel between clinics as needed Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong attention to detail Analytical problem-solving skills Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines Ability to work independently and as a team member Demonstrated computer literacy.
