JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Shipping Supervisor and in coordination with the storage and pack departments the Shipping Assistant receives orders from the Exchange, assigns employees to make up the orders, tracks the packed fruit inventory, directs truck drivers to correct loading stations and directs the loading of orders per manifests. Ensure employees work safely and follow safety rules and may assign employees to work overtime as needed. Operates computer terminal and scanner to check orders and packed fruit inventory and keeps daily record of packed fruit. May make daily reports and check packed fruit regularly for quality and decay problems. May perform other tasks as assigned by management. May be temporarily or permanently assigned to another facility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Must be able to report to work on time and maintain good daily attendance and flexible work schedule. To coordinate shipping activities while following shipping procedures to ensure the efficient and correct loading of orders to include loading trucks if necessary. Possess knowledge of shipping department procedures and handling of packed fruit. Able to accurately maintain both manual and computerized records using various forms, computer terminal and handheld scanner. To maintain established quality control standards in packed cartons. To accurately and in a timely manner maintain manual and computerized records of fruit packed and stored as well as made up orders. To coordinate with other departments as needed in a professional and positive manner. To assist supervisor in coordinating and monitoring the storage of fruit to ensure maximum availability and quality of stored fruit. To train employees to work in a safe and efficient manner. Must be able to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things for extended periods of time. Monitors quality standards. Requires attention to detail. Maintains positive working relations with other departments and within the bagging department. Performs a routine and as needed safety inspections of area. Perform all job assignments in a safe manner while following all safety and food safety rules. Must be able to work in a team environment and maintain a respectful business relationship with co-workers. Must do additional duties as assigned by Supervisor or management. Must adhere to all Food Safety Policies and Procedures. May be asked to lead staff in performing stretching activities prior to start of shift. Must be able to work variable hours.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Must be a certified forklift operator. Must be able to follow verbal instructions, as it relates to your job. Must be able to work in a team environment. Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written Food Safety and Safety rules. Able to effectively coordinate the activities of employees and maintain good employee relations.
