JOB TITLE

Shipping and Receiving

FLSA STATUS

Non- Exempt Summary Responsible for the shipment or receipt of outgoing or incoming materials, parts, or products. Studies shipping and receiving processes for effectiveness. Suggests improvements to distribution procedures, and acts to improve timeliness or reduce costs. Documents shipping or receiving information. Completes reports for management.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Compares identifies information and counts, weights, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills or invoices, orders or other records. Determines method of shipments. Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers. Inserts items into containers. Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape. Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Routes items to departments. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet qualifications. Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.

MINIMUM EDUCATION ANDTRAINING

High school diploma or equivalent.

MINIMUM DIRECTLY RELATED JOBEXPERIENCE

Two years experience in a manufacturing environment.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, ANDSKILLS

Organizational skills Knowledge of commercial package services, i.e., UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc. Experience interacting with commercial shipping carriers Knowledge of basic mathematics Ability to interact with a team of coworkers Customer contact skills. Computer literate. Able to read and comprehend documentation written in the English language. Written communication skills.
