Receiving Clerk Job Description The Receiving Clerk manages the flow of goods into and out of the facility, ensuring that all incoming and outgoing shipments are accurately processed, documented, and handled with care. This role combines hands-on work with detailed data entry, careful counting, and the use of inventory and logistics software to maintain precise records and support smooth warehouse operations. Responsibilities Unload incoming trucks and move boxes and crates safely from delivery vehicles to designated areas. Inspect incoming packages and materials for visible damage or irregularities and report any issues promptly. Verify delivered items against purchase orders, packing lists, and other documentation to ensure accuracy of quantities and product details. Log received inventory into the computer system, ensuring accurate data entry and proper tagging or labeling for storage. Organize and stage inbound goods for efficient storage and retrieval in accordance with inventory procedures. Prepare outbound orders by picking the correct items, packing products securely, and using appropriate boxes, labels, and postage. Create and print shipping documents such as bills of lading, work orders, and shipping manifests for outbound shipments. Schedule pickups and coordinate with freight carriers and delivery drivers to ensure goods are dispatched on time. Use RF scanners and inventory software to track items, update stock levels, and maintain accurate records of movements. Perform data entry related to shipping and receiving activities, maintaining detailed and error-free documentation. Communicate with internal teams and external contacts to resolve shipping or receiving issues and support customer service needs. Follow established logistics and warehouse procedures to maintain an efficient and orderly work environment. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving processes, including handling inbound and outbound goods. Proficiency in inventory management practices, including logging and tracking items in a computer database. Strong data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy when entering shipping and receiving information. Ability to perform careful counting and verification of orders against purchase orders and packing lists. Experience using RF scanners for inventory tracking and order picking. Familiarity with logistics workflows and documentation such as bills of lading, work orders, and shipping manifests. Basic knowledge of ERP systems and inventory software, including platforms such as SAP. Ability to use Microsoft Excel for basic tracking, reporting, and documentation related to inventory and shipments. Customer service skills to communicate effectively with internal teams, carriers, and other stakeholders. Ability to work reliably on a 1st shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in order selection and picking within a warehouse or distribution environment. Background in shipping and receiving or general logistics operations. Comfort working with computer-based systems, including ERP and inventory management software. Ability to learn and adapt to new inventory software and warehouse technologies. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple shipments and tasks in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication skills to collaborate with coworkers and coordinate with freight carriers and delivery drivers. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a 1st shift, onsite role with hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The work takes place in a warehouse or shipping environment where you handle physical goods, unload trucks, and prepare shipments, but do not operate forklifts. You regularly use computers, ERP systems such as SAP, RF scanners, and Microsoft Excel to manage inventory and shipping documentation. The setting is active and process-oriented, requiring adherence to safety guidelines and appropriate warehouse attire suitable for handling boxes and working around delivery vehicles Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Deer Park, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
