The Building Consenting Unit plays a pivotal role in the Christchurch community through its range of activities and responsibilities, most notably by ensuring compliance with the New Zealand Building Act. We support our customers to bring their future building project to life, from conception through to completion. About the role | Ko te mahi nei We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader to lead our Commercial Building Inspections team. The team delivers commercial building inspections and also supports residential inspection delivery. You will provide clear direction, coaching and support to your team while ensuring inspection services are efficient, technically sound and customer-focused . You will manage day-to-day operations, respond to emerging issues and work closely with other teams across the Building Consenting Unit to deliver an effective end-to-end service.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading, motivating and developing a team of Building Inspectors to achieve organisational and business unit goals. Creating a high-performance culture that promotes accountability, engagement, collaboration and professional growth. Managing inspection operations to ensure statutory timeframes and customer expectations are consistently met or exceeded. Identifying and resolving emerging operational issues while proactively managing risks. Working closely with Building Consent Processing teams to deliver seamless end-to-end building consent services. Driving operational improvements and change initiatives that support excellence in building consent delivery. Building strong relationships across Council, industry, government agencies and key stakeholders. Championing customer-focused service delivery and continuous improvement. Ensuring health and safety practices are embedded across all team activities. Managing team resources and budgets to achieve performance objectives effectively.
