Cardillo & Son, Inc. A. Cardillo & Son, Inc. is a third-generation, family-owned construction company proudly serving Massachusetts for more than 75 years. Our diversified operations include aggregate and soil supply and processing, contract trucking and disposal, excavation and site development, residential building construction, snow and ice management, and real estate development. We are seeking an experienced heavy equipment operator to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our aggregate and soil supply yard in Waltham, Massachusetts. This is not a desk-management position. We are looking for someone who enjoys operating equipment and working outdoors but is ready to take on greater responsibility. The right person will run the yard, operate equipment, direct employees and CDL drivers, coordinate material movement, work with customers, monitor inventory and material quality, and take ownership of keeping the operation organized, productive, and running smoothly. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operator who has developed strong knowledge of construction materials and field operations and is ready to step into a hands-on management role. What You'll Do Operate front-end loaders and other heavy equipment to load trucks, move material, manage stockpiles, and support daily yard operations. Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation, organization, and productivity of the Waltham yard. Direct equipment operators, CDL drivers, and other employees assigned to the operation. Train and develop new equipment operators and yard employees. Coordinate incoming and outgoing material movements, trucking needs, and customer deliveries. Monitor material inventories and determine what needs to be brought into, transferred to, or removed from the facility. Identify different types of aggregate, soil, excavation, rock, concrete, and other materials handled by the yard. Monitor incoming and outgoing materials for quality and consistency. Direct customers and drivers to appropriate loading and unloading areas and safely manage traffic throughout the yard. Maintain organized stockpiles and material areas. Ensure the yard is appropriately staffed to meet operational needs, including coordinating employee schedules and Saturday coverage. Ensure equipment receives proper day-to-day care, including greasing, fluid checks, routine operator maintenance, pressure washing, detailing, and cleaning. Complete sales receipts and required sales documentation. Submit an end-of-day email containing required operational and sales information. Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional facility. Participate in Company snow and ice management operations as required. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is experienced, dependable, self-motivated, and comfortable taking ownership of an operation without needing constant direction.
The ideal candidate will have:
Significant heavy equipment operating experience. Strong front-end loader skills. Experience in aggregate supply, soil handling, excavation, site work, construction, landscape materials, or a related field. The ability to identify and understand different types of soil, aggregate, excavation, and construction materials. Previous experience leading, directing, or training employees. Experience coordinating trucks, drivers, deliveries, or material movement. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Good communication and customer-service skills. The ability to plan ahead, recognize what needs to be done, and take action. A strong commitment to safety, equipment care, material quality, and maintaining an organized operation. A valid driver's license. A Massachusetts 2A Hoisting License. The Right Fit This position is particularly well suited for an experienced heavy equipment operator who wants to take the next step in their career. You may already be the person others rely on at your current company—the operator who knows how to keep an operation moving, understands materials, takes care of equipment, helps train newer employees, and doesn't need to be told every little thing that needs to get done. We're looking for someone who can bring that experience to Cardillo, take ownership of our Waltham yard, and grow into an important leadership role within the Company.
Schedule & Compensation Compensation:
$80,000-$90,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, year-round position that generally averages approximately 45 hours per week, with hours varying based on seasonal and operational needs. The Yard Manager will typically work two Saturdays per month during the Saturday operating season and is responsible for ensuring appropriate Saturday coverage based on staffing and operational needs. Additional Saturday coverage may be required when necessary. The position also participates in Company snow and ice management operations and must be available for snow events, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended or irregular hours as weather conditions require. Snow work performed beyond 45 hours in a workweek is compensated separately at the Company's established snow rate, in addition to the employee's regular salary. What We Offer Full-time, year-round employment Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications Health insurance 401(k) Paid time off Paid holidays Company-provided cell phone Company-provided laptop Company-provided work clothing and safety equipment Opportunities to grow within a long-established, diversified family-owned company Work Environment This is a hands-on outdoor position at an active aggregate and soil supply yard. The position involves regular heavy equipment operation and exposure to truck traffic, dust, dirt, mud, noise, uneven terrain, and changing New England weather conditions. The Yard Manager must be comfortable working outside, operating equipment regularly, interacting with customers and drivers, and remaining actively involved in the day-to-day operation of the facility. Join A. Cardillo & Son, Inc. If you're an experienced equipment operator who's ready for more responsibility and wants the opportunity to run an operation rather than simply operate a machine, we'd like to hear from you. A.
