$95K to $105K Direct Hire Position Summary The Distribution Center Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, safety, productivity, and daily operations of a pipe and steel distribution facility. This position oversees shipping, receiving, warehouse and pipe-yard operations, inventory control, order fulfillment, material handling, equipment utilization, and employee performance. The DC Manager ensures customer orders are processed accurately and delivered on schedule while maintaining a strong focus on safety, inventory accuracy, operational efficiency, cost control, and customer service. The position requires hands-on leadership in an industrial environment where employees routinely handle long, heavy, and oversized steel products using forklifts, cranes, and other material-handling equipment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Direct daily warehouse, distribution center, and pipe-yard operations. Manage shipping, receiving, order pulling, staging, loading, unloading, and inventory activities. Oversee the safe handling and storage of steel pipe, tubing, fittings, valves, and other industrial products. Coordinate the loading and unloading of flatbed trucks and trailers, ensuring materials are properly positioned and secured. Ensure customer orders are pulled accurately according to purchase orders, sales orders, specifications, sizes, grades, heat numbers, and quantities. Monitor inbound and outbound shipments to ensure orders meet customer delivery requirements. Manage and develop supervisors, leads, warehouse associates, forklift operators, loaders, and material handlers. Establish daily manpower requirements and assign employees according to workload and operational priorities. Monitor employee productivity, attendance, overtime, performance, and training. Maintain accurate inventory through cycle counts, physical inventories, material-location controls, and inventory reconciliation. Investigate inventory discrepancies, damaged materials, shipping errors, and order accuracy issues. Develop and monitor operational KPIs, including productivity, order accuracy, inventory accuracy, on-time shipping, overtime, safety, and cost performance. Identify opportunities to improve warehouse layout, material flow, labor utilization, loading efficiency, and overall throughput. Coordinate with transportation and logistics teams regarding truck schedules, delivery priorities, and customer requirements. Partner with Sales, Purchasing, Operations, Transportation, Inventory Control, and Customer Service to resolve operational issues. Ensure forklifts, overhead cranes, saws, loaders, and other equipment are properly inspected and maintained. Coordinate preventive maintenance and necessary repairs for warehouse and yard equipment. Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, DOT-related procedures, and established operating standards. Conduct safety meetings, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and pipe-yard environment. Assist with budgeting, labor planning, overtime management, operating expenses, and cost-control initiatives. Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives designed to increase productivity, reduce errors, improve safety, and strengthen customer service. Perform additional operational and leadership duties as required. Load securement equipment Qualifications 5+ years of warehouse, distribution, forklift, steel service center, pipe yard, or industrial operations experience preferred. 3+ years of supervisory or management experience in warehouse or distribution operations. Pipe, steel, metals, oilfield supply, industrial distribution, or heavy-material handling experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience managing shipping, receiving, inventory, order fulfillment, and warehouse personnel. Knowledge of safely handling long, heavy, and oversized materials. Strong understanding of inventory control and cycle-counting procedures. Experience managing operational KPIs, productivity, labor, and overtime. Strong knowledge of warehouses and industrial safety requirements. Ability to lead employees in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and warehouse/inventory management systems.
