Job Summary:
The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for developing and executing the company's materials management and sourcing strategy, including supplier selection, inventory optimization, and logistics management. This role plays a critical part in managing cost, mitigating supply risk, and ensuring continuity across key supply chains. The Supply Chain Manager leads commercial negotiations with strategic suppliers and partners cross-functionally to support operational and business objectives.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop and execute strategies to optimize and right-size the supply base Lead contract negotiations, cost-reduction initiatives, and commercial discussions with strategic suppliers Identify and develop alternative solutions to address emerging supply chain risks and constraints Provide direction to Planning and Procurement teams regarding appropriate inventory levels and replenishment strategies Establish logistics strategy and monitor performance and compliance Analyze market trends, pricing benchmarks, and emerging technologies to inform sourcing and supplier strategies Proactively identify supply risks, potential disruptions, and alternative sources to ensure continuity of supply Research, evaluate, and recommend suppliers in support of new product introductions Analyze total cost of ownership, including logistics, tariffs, and lifecycle costs, to support sourcing decisions Prepare, issue, and manage Requests for Quotation (RFQs) with prospective and existing suppliers Qualify, onboard, and manage suppliers in compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards Coordinate supplier involvement in new product development initiatives in collaboration with internal stakeholders Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to ensure supplier capabilities meet technical, quality, and regulatory requirements Work directly with suppliers to resolve technical, quality, or supply-related issues in a timely manner Monitor supplier performance metrics (quality, delivery, cost, responsiveness) and lead continuous improvement initiatives Maintain accurate supplier and sourcing data within the ERP system and generate reports related to cost, lead times, and sourcing effectiveness
Basic Qualifications Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or technical-related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in supply chain management or procurement within an ERP-driven environment Demonstrated experience optimizing logistics costs and supplier performance Experience in packaging or food packaging industries preferred
Essential Functions:
Proven ability to negotiate complex agreements with suppliers at an executive level Strong project management skills with the ability to execute across multiple priorities Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities Ability to interpret and apply technical specifications and requirements Strategic, results-oriented mindset with a focus on quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement High sense of urgency and strong attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, CSI, ERP systems, and related supply chain management tools
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
This role offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement, combining remote and on-site work in Walker, MI. While certain responsibilities may be performed remotely, on-site presence will be expected at times to effectively support supply chain operations. On-site work takes place in both office and manufacturing environments and includes collaboration with cross-functional teams, engagement with manufacturing and supply chain partners, supplier coordination activities, and participation in meetings that support operational alignment and business objectives. This hybrid model provides flexibility while ensuring strong connection to on-site teams, processes, and resources critical to supply chain execution.
Travel Requirements:
This position requires occasional travel, up to 10% annually, to suppliers, vendors, customers, and industry trade shows. Travel is an important part of the role, supporting supplier relationships, new product development, sourcing initiatives, and staying current with industry trends. Travel will be planned in advance based on business needs.
