We are looking for an experienced Logistics Operation Manager to join our team. The Logistics Operations Manager coordinates inbound raw materials and outbound finished structural components while directly supervising a small fleet and yard crew. This role ensures compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, manages heavy-haul freight carriers, and optimizes yard storage. The manager bridges the gap between production schedules and construction site delivery timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Direct Supervision Manage daily schedules for 3 dedicated company drivers. Supervise 4 material handlers operating forklifts. Conduct safety briefings and enforce PPE compliance in the yard. Approve timecards and manage performance reviews for the logistics team. Participate as a key member of the management team Fleet & Carrier Management Oversight of 3-4 company trucks , including maintenance and inspection logs. Negotiate freight rates with external heavy-haul and oversized-load carriers. Secure special permits for transporting oversized structural steel pieces. Ensure DOT compliance regarding electronic logging devices (ELD) and driver hours. Inbound & Outbound Coordination Align delivery schedules with production timelines and job site needs. Track shipments live to prevent construction site delays or crane idle time. Resolve transit issues such as weather delays, routing changes, or breakdowns. Verify shipping manifests against bills of lading and purchase orders. Yard & Inventory Control Optimize yard layouts for safe staging of structural steel material and components. Oversee rigging operations for safe loading and unloading of flatbeds and trailers. Maintain inventory accuracy of raw steel stock and finished goods. Enforce strict safety protocols for crane and forklift operations in the yard. Requirements & Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience. 3+ years of supervisory experience managing drivers and warehouse personnel. 5+ years of experience in heavy industrial logistics or manufacturing. Steel industry background is highly preferred due to unique material handling. Skills & Knowledge Expertise in DOT regulations and oversized/overweight load permitting. Proficiency in logistics software including TMS, ERP, and inventory systems. Strong negotiation skills for sourcing and contracting third-party logistics. Rigging and lifting knowledge regarding heavy forklifts. Performance Metrics (KPIs) On-Time In-Full (OTIF) delivery rates to construction job sites. Fleet utilization efficiency and controlled maintenance costs for the 3-4 trucks.
