JOB SUMMARY
This position performs a variety of supervisory, administrative, skilled, technical, and maintenance work in construction, operation, repair & maintenance of the city's parks, streets, sidewalks, cemetery, and storm drainage facilities and systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plans and organizes daily work assignments. Assesses work orders and develops associated work plans and strategies. Supervises and participates in the construction of driveways, finishes concrete, and spreads asphalt. Operates a trackhoe to grade ditches. Enforces safe work practices. Reviews work to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures. Operates a variety of equipment, including front-end loader, backhoe, and dump truck. Must be knowledgeable in situations requiring traffic control, providing layout design and installation of traffic control devices, and knowledgeable in interpreting guidelines listed in the Manual of Uniformed Traffic Control Devices. (MUTCD) Transports equipment and supplies to and from job sites. Purchases materials and equipment. Skilled in providing calculations relating to angles, slope, and construction grade, concrete cubic yards, asphalt and rock tonnage calculations, project quantity calculations, and inspection of city infrastructure. Ability to establish, and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. Supervises and participates in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment and performs pre- and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections. Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel. Performs related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Three to five years (preferred) of experience relating to the construction, repair and maintenance of streets, concrete sidewalk & curbs, and storm drainage systems including the operation of related maintenance equipment, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of a valid State of Georgia Class A or B CDL driver's license.
