Company Overview Wheeling Township is a local government entity dedicated to serving its residents through essential programs and services. Established in 1850, it covers a 36-square mile area in NW suburban Chicago, providing vital support such as transportation, senior services, and social services assistance to a diverse community of residents. Position Overview We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Assistant Transportation Coordinator to join the Township. In this vital role, you will support the planning, dispatching, and management of transportation services for our community. Your proactive approach will offer the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping Township residents access essential services through effective transportation coordination.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for communicating with residents regarding ride requests, and when necessary, offering other appropriate transportation referrals; Using Ecolane scheduling software for ride requests; sharing details with passengers, including ride denials; communicate with residents regarding appointments or scheduling issues; Communicate with new/existing clients regarding the transportation services offered by the Township, and ensure all registration paperwork is complete and on file; Communicate effectively with drivers, clients, and internal teams via Ecolane or Push-to-Talk calls to coordinate pickups, drop-offs, and service updates Responsible for daily operation of the TRIP program. Along with Coordinator, handle TRIP calls and ride requests, ongoing communications with TRIP personnel; responsible for ongoing TRIP program ride monitoring and reporting; Serve as Driver on an as-needed basis; Responsible for timely and appropriate communications to the Transportation Coordinator and/or Director of Senior & Disability Services regarding accidents/incidents involving Township vehicles or personnel;
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proven experience with transportation planning, logistics or supply chain operations Must have excellent computer and technology skills, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); Patience in working with - and sensitivity to - older adults and permanently disabled persons who may have limitations of hearing, eyesight, mobility or cognition; Demonstrate excellent knowledge of geographic area and/or capacity to learn quickly; Familiarity with GPS technology and transportation management systems (ideally with Ecolane); Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—and phone etiquette for interacting with clients and team members Ability to work independently while maintaining high levels of accuracy in data entry and analysis tasks Qualifications & Experience Dispatching, transportation office experience, or customer service experience is preferred; Experience with, or exposure to, Ecolane scheduling software is a plus; Must successfully pass PACE driver training class; Must successfully pass and obtain MEC in order to drive; HS diploma or GED required;
Pay:
$45,000.00 - $47,000.00 per year
