Job Summary The Transportation Manager is responsible for the overall operation and management of regional transportation activities, including local customer pickup, first-mile transportation, line-haul transportation, transfer transportation, and transportation between distribution centers and last-mile service centers . This role oversees local pickup route planning, vehicle and driver dispatching, transportation network planning, multi-stop routing, carrier and vendor management, capacity planning, transportation cost control, service performance, and transportation safety. The Transportation Manager is responsible for coordinating the full transportation flow from local customer pickup → distribution center receiving → sorting → transportation to downstream service centers , ensuring shipments are picked up and transported safely, accurately, efficiently, and on time while continuously improving transportation network efficiency, vehicle utilization, and overall transportation costs. Key Responsibilities 1. Local Pickup Management Manage daily pickup operations for customers, warehouses, fulfillment centers, and other shipping locations within the assigned region. Develop daily pickup plans based on customer requirements, forecasted volume, actual shipment volume, pickup windows, and customer locations. Plan and continuously optimize local pickup routes, including direct pickups, multi-stop milk runs, and consolidated pickup routes. Coordinate drivers, vehicles, pickup schedules, and customer appointments. Monitor daily pickup execution to ensure shipments are collected within committed pickup windows. Handle pickup exceptions, including missed pickups, late pickups, unexpected volume increases, insufficient vehicle capacity, and customer schedule changes. Coordinate with customers and internal operations teams to ensure smooth handoff, receiving, and downstream sorting at distribution centers. Analyze pickup route volume, route density, mileage, vehicle utilization, and transportation cost per package. Support new customer launches by developing transportation and pickup solutions based on expected volume, shipment type, and pickup requirements. 2. Line-Haul and Transfer Transportation Management Manage daily transportation between distribution centers, transfer hubs, and last-mile service centers. Develop daily transportation and capacity plans based on forecasted and actual shipment volume. Manage vehicle dispatching, loading, departure times, arrival times, and dock appointments. Plan and manage direct routes, multi-stop routes, and consolidated transportation routes. Monitor transportation execution in real time and address delays, capacity shortages, vehicle breakdowns, and other transportation exceptions. Develop capacity contingency plans based on daily and peak-season volume fluctuations. Ensure sufficient transportation capacity to support daily operations and peak business periods. 3. Transportation Network and Route Planning Design, plan, and continuously optimize local pickup and line-haul transportation networks. Evaluate different transportation models, including direct routes, multi-stop routes, milk runs, and consolidated transportation. Optimize routes based on shipment volume, mileage, service requirements, vehicle capacity, and transportation cost. Support new customers, distribution centers, and service center launches by developing transportation solutions and capacity plans. Continuously improve route density, vehicle load factor, and vehicle utilization. Adjust transportation routes and departure frequency based on business volume changes to improve overall network efficiency. 4. Carrier and Fleet Management Manage third-party carriers, transportation vendors, and other transportation resources. Participate in carrier sourcing, RFQs, price comparison, commercial negotiations, onboarding, and performance evaluation. Plan vehicle and driver resources based on business demand to ensure sufficient capacity for local pickup and line-haul operations. Maintain backup vehicle and carrier resources to reduce operational risks caused by driver or vehicle shortages. Regularly evaluate carriers based on transportation performance, service quality, safety, capacity support, and cost. Develop corrective action plans for underperforming carriers and follow up on improvement results. 5. Transportation Cost Management Develop regional transportation budgets and manage transportation costs. Analyze transportation costs by pickup route, line-haul route, trip, mileage, vehicle type, and shipment volume. Monitor key cost metrics, including: Cost per pickup Cost per trip Cost per mile Cost per package Reduce unnecessary transportation expenses caused by empty miles, low vehicle utilization, inefficient routing, vehicle waiting time, and other operational inefficiencies. Review carrier invoices and resolve discrepancies between invoices and actual transportation records. Continuously drive transportation cost reduction while maintaining service performance and transportation quality. Analyze transportation cost trends regularly and develop specific cost improvement initiatives. 6. Transportation KPI and Performance Management Establish, track, and continuously improve key transportation performance indicators, including: On-time pickup rate Pickup completion rate On-time departure rate On-time arrival rate Vehicle load factor Cost per pickup Cost per trip Cost per mile Cost per package Carrier performance achievement rate Conduct daily and weekly transportation performance reviews, analyze missed targets, identify root causes, and develop corrective action plans. 7. Transportation Safety and Compliance Ensure transportation operations comply with applicable U.S. transportation regulations, safety requirements, and company policies. Verify and manage carrier and driver qualifications, insurance, vehicle documentation, and safety records. Regularly identify and assess vehicle and transportation safety risks. Investigate transportation accidents, cargo damage, shipment loss, and other safety incidents. Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions for transportation safety incidents. Ensure drivers, carriers, and related personnel comply with company transportation safety requirements. 8. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Sales, Customer Service, Distribution Center Operations, Service Centers, Delivery Operations, Planning, Finance, Procurement, and Safety teams. Ensure customer pickup requirements, distribution center processing capacity, and downstream transportation plans are properly aligned. Coordinate vehicle, route, and departure plan adjustments based on real-time operational conditions. Lead cross-functional coordination for major transportation exceptions and ensure issues are fully resolved. Support transportation solution design and implementation for new customers, new business initiatives, new regions, and new service centers. Qualifications Associate degree or above required; Bachelor's degree preferred in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, or a related field. 2+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, parcel delivery, e-commerce logistics, or supply chain operations. 1+ year of transportation management or team management experience preferred. Strong understanding of local customer pickup, first-mile transportation, route planning, line-haul transportation, and transfer transportation . Strong experience in carrier and transportation vendor management. Ability to analyze transportation costs and implement cost-control initiatives. Familiarity with vehicle dispatching, route planning, capacity forecasting, and transportation exception management. Strong data analysis skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office applications. Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), or other logistics systems preferred. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume, and time-sensitive logistics environment. Strong communication, negotiation, organizational, coordination, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Experience planning transportation capacity for e-commerce promotional periods, holidays, or peak seasons preferred. Familiarity with applicable U.S. transportation and safety regulations preferred. Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese . Preferred Industry Experience Relevant experience in one or more of the following industries is preferred: E-commerce logistics, parcel delivery, local pickup, first-mile transportation, last-mile delivery, third-party logistics (3PL), fulfillment centers, distribution centers, transportation fleet operations, or high-volume parcel transportation networks.

$80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
