Position Summary Second Harvest Food Bank Feeding South Louisiana is seeking an experienced, safety-focused Fleet Manager to provide strategic oversight of the organization's transportation fleet. This position is responsible for fleet safety, regulatory compliance, preventative maintenance, cost control, vehicle availability, and operational efficiency. The Fleet Manager will oversee all fleet assets, including kitchen vehicles, rental vehicles, and passenger units. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, data-driven professional who can use fleet technology and performance data to improve safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Fleet Operations and Asset Management Oversee the daily operation and availability of all fleet vehicles. Ensure vehicle availability aligns with distribution and delivery schedules. Manage preventative maintenance and repair schedules for leased and owned vehicles. Monitor fleet utilization, vehicle lifecycles, and replacement needs. Manage vehicle lease agreements and ensure all parties comply with applicable terms and conditions. Oversee third-party maintenance vendors and monitor service quality. Track vehicle condition, downtime, repair costs, and equipment availability. Maintain accurate vehicle, maintenance, inspection, and repair records. Respond to vehicle breakdowns and other urgent fleet-related matters. Safety and Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable state and local regulations. Lead fleet safety initiatives and support a safety-first culture. Conduct or coordinate accident investigations as required. Maintain effective relationships with regulatory agencies, auditors, and insurance partners. Financial and Vendor Management Develop and manage the fleet budget, including fuel, maintenance, leasing, and capital expenses. Monitor fuel usage, mileage, cost per mile, and other fleet-related expenses. Develop tools and processes to reduce the fleet's total cost of ownership. Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities related to fuel efficiency, routing, maintenance, leasing, and vehicle utilization. Support vendor negotiations and monitor vendor performance. Assist with fleet replacement planning and capital expenditure recommendations. Technology, Data, and Reporting Use Samsara or a similar fleet management platform to monitor vehicles, drivers, maintenance, and safety performance. Learn, implement, and optimize the organization's Samsara system. Establish appropriate fleet and transportation metrics and performance targets. Analyze operational data and prepare regular reports for leadership. Track key performance indicators and recommend corrective actions when targets are not met. Use data to drive continuous improvement in safety, service, efficiency, and cost control. Collaboration and Leadership Partner closely with Transportation, Warehouse, Kitchen, Impact, and Operations leadership. Coordinate with dispatch and transportation personnel regarding daily delivery schedules and vehicle needs. Conduct driver coaching sessions and support fleet safety meetings as needed. Review performance evaluations prepared for transportation personnel to ensure consistency and policy compliance. Provide leadership with timely updates regarding fleet performance, risks, incidents, expenses, and operational needs. Qualifications and Competencies Demonstrated experience managing fleet operations, transportation assets, or a related function. Strong working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations. Experience managing preventative maintenance programs and vehicle repair schedules. Knowledge of fleet asset management, vehicle lifecycle planning, and total cost of ownership. Experience with Samsara or a similar fleet management system is strongly preferred. Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, controlling costs, and analyzing fleet expenses. Ability to analyze performance data, establish meaningful metrics, and prepare operational reports. Strong vendor management, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Ability to coach employees and promote a culture of safety and accountability. Strong judgment, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to respond calmly and effectively to breakdowns, accidents, compliance concerns, and other urgent situations. Commitment to Second Harvest's mission and service to the community.

Pay:

$75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
