The Terminal Manager leads all site functions — operations, maintenance, safety and environmental compliance, inventory control, customer service, and personnel management — to ensure the terminal runs safely, efficiently, and profitably. Key Responsibilities Direct day-to-day terminal operations, including dry bulk material receiving, storage, reclaim, blending, bagging (if applicable), and loadout via, barge, rail car, and truck. Own full accountability for the terminal, including annual budgeting, cost control, and monthly financial reporting to corporate leadership. Plan and oversee barge operations, including dock scheduling, stevedoring coordination, draft surveys, load/discharge rates, and demurrage avoidance. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, USCG, DOT, and state environmental and agricultural regulations; maintain SPCC, stormwater, air permit, and other required plans.
Champion a strong safety culture:
lead job safety analyses, incident investigations, permit-to-work and confined-space/hot-work programs, and drive toward zero recordable incidents. Manage inventory accuracy and product quality across multiple bulk products (e.g., urea, phosphates, potash, AMS, blends, feed products and industrial commodities ), including reconciliation, shrink control, and segregation to prevent cross-contamination. Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance on conveyors, bucket elevators, dust collection systems, scales, front-end loaders, and other bulk material-handling equipment. Hire, train, schedule, and supervise terminal staff; manage performance, coaching, and disciplinary actions; foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Build and maintain relationships with customers, railroads, trucking companies, and regulatory agencies. Coordinate with logistics and supply chain teams on inbound/outbound scheduling, freight optimization, and product allocation. Maintain emergency response readiness, including spill response, fire prevention, and severe-weather contingency planning. Prepare and present operational, safety, and financial reports to senior leadership; recommend and lead capital improvement projects.
Qualifications Required:
Experience in logistics, agribusiness, construction, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5+ years of progressive operations/management experience in a bulk terminal, port, agribusiness, chemical, or industrial materials-handling environment. Demonstrated experience with marine or barge terminal operations, including dock scheduling, stevedoring, and cargo documentation. Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, USCG, and DOT regulations applicable to bulk material handling and marine terminals. Experience with budgeting, and cost-control experience. Strong leadership and team-building skills, with experience managing hourly workforce. Proficiency with inventory, scale, and standard office software. TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) or ability to obtain prior to start. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to walk terminal grounds, climb stairs and ladders, and access elevated platforms, conveyors, and vessel/barge decks. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and industrial equipment typical of a bulk material-handling terminal. Ability to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, respiratory protection as needed). Availability for extended hours, weekends, and on-call response during vessel calls, peak season, or emergencies.
