NEMT Lead Driver & Fleet Coordinator Job Overview We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented NEMT Lead Driver & Fleet Coordinator to oversee daily transport operations, maintain our vehicle fleet, and lead a team of compassionate non-emergency medical drivers. In this dual role, you will balance active route driving with fleet management, route optimization, and team coordination to ensure patients receive safe, timely, and dignified transportation to medical appointments.
Key Responsibilities Fleet & Vehicle Maintenance:
Conduct regular pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections. Schedule routine maintenance, oil changes, tire rotations, and repairs with external vendors. Ensure all wheelchair lifts, ramps, tie-downs, and safety gear (first aid, fire extinguishers) are functional and compliant.
Team Leadership & Training:
Onboard and mentor new drivers on defensive driving, patient sensitivity, HIPAA privacy standards, and proper wheelchair/stretcher securement techniques. Perform ride-along audits and provide performance feedback.
Route & Dispatch Coordination:
Partner with dispatchers to optimize daily pickup schedules, adapt to real-time traffic conditions, and resolve route delays. Step in to drive priority or coverage routes as needed.
Patient Care & Passenger Safety:
Assist riders with boarding, disembarking, and mobility equipment with empathy and professionalism. Ensure passenger comfort, climate control, and safety protocols throughout every trip.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure fleet compliance with local, state, ADA, and DOT transportation regulations. Maintain detailed logs for vehicle maintenance, mileage, driver certifications, and incident reports.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
2+ years of professional driving experience (NEMT, paratransit, or medical shuttle preferred), with prior supervisory or fleet assistance experience.
Licensing:
Valid Driver's License with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR). Passenger endorsements or Chauffeur's License preferred where required by state law.
Certifications:
Current CPR/First Aid certification and PASS (Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity) certification preferred (or willing to obtain upon hire).
Skills:
Proficiency with dispatch/NEMT routing software, GPS devices, and fleet maintenance tracking tools. Strong organizational, conflict-resolution, and clear communication skills.
Physical Ability:
Capability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver mobility equipment (wheelchairs/stretchers) and assist passengers up to 50+ lbs safely.
