Description The City of Jefferson is currently accepting applications for a Parks Maintenance Crew Leader for our Parks and Recreation Department. This position will participate in all park facility and grounds maintenance, improvement and renovation projects; schedule daily work, train, instruct and enforce safe work practices of crew; manage operations in absence of supervisor; and maintain cooperation and good public relations between maintenance crew and park patrons. Examples of Duties Performs building and grounds maintenance and construction on City-owned property and facilities including buildings, shelters, pavilions, trails, playgrounds, ball fields, bathrooms, concession stands, ice arena, swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course, and irrigation systems. Performs mowing, painting, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, fabrication, grading and seeding, tree trimming, removal of waste materials, and depending on the position, horticulture, landscaping and tree care. Uses heavy and light equipment, and hand tools to perform functions, including mower, weedeater, chainsaw, brush hog, ditch witch, trencher, chipper, backhoe, tandem dump truck, skid loader, bobcat, and trucks. Performs snow and ice removal on trails, parking lots, and sidewalks. Sets up and tears down for City special events and activities. Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment. Performs work in a safe manner, securing work site and following work zone safety rules, wearing safety equipment including glasses, boots, gloves, hearing protection, helmets, and harnesses. Maintains good public relations with customers. Maintains accurate, reliable records of daily work, equipment used, worksites, and projects. Inspects work progress, equipment, or construction sites to verify safety or to ensure that crews are performing work according to specifications and standards.

Typical Qualifications Physical:

Ability to work in extreme weather conditions; lift, carry, push and pull up to 100 pounds stand for extended periods; and operate various parks equipment including: backhoes, loaders, bobcat, tandem dump truck, brush hog, skid loader, ditch witch, and trenching equipment.

Mental:

Ability to be on call 24 hours a day for emergency purposes; follow directions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and organize equipment requirement necessary for daily jobs. Requires a high school diploma and five years' experience in general park grounds and facility maintenance, building trades and construction, maintaining park and construction equipment or closely related work. Requires a Missouri CDL Class A license with air brakes Supplemental Information Typical hours are Monday through Friday 7:30a.m. to 4:00p.m. with a rotating weekend schedule. EEO-M/F/D/V
