This is a leadership position, but it is also a physically demanding, hands-on job. Crew Leads are expected to work alongside the crew during loading, unloading, setups, breakdowns, and pickups—not simply stand back and delegate. Starting pay is $19+/hour, depending on experience. Truck & Trailer Driving Required Applicants must be comfortable driving a full-size company truck and towing a loaded equipment trailer. Must have a valid driver's license Must have a driving record that meets company and insurance requirements Must be comfortable driving a full-size company truck Must be comfortable towing a loaded equipment trailer Must be comfortable turning, maneuvering, parking, and backing a truck and trailer Must be able to safely transport equipment between storage and customer locations Must follow traffic laws and company vehicle procedures Must perform basic pre-trip observations and report concerns involving tires, lights, hitch connections, safety chains, or other vehicle/trailer equipment Previous truck and trailer towing experience is strongly preferred Driving eligibility may be subject to motor vehicle record review and company insurance requirements Responsibilities Drive the company truck and tow the equipment trailer on assigned delivery and pickup routes Lead and organize the Setup & Pickup Crew throughout the workday Work alongside crew members during loading, unloading, setups, breakdowns, and pickups Review assigned routes and scheduled rentals before leaving Confirm the correct inflatables and equipment are loaded for each route Verify required blowers, extension cords, stakes, sandbags, tarps, hoses, and other equipment are present Assign responsibilities to crew members while actively participating in the work Set up and break down bounce houses, water slides, obstacle courses, inflatable combos, and other rental equipment Ensure inflatables are positioned and secured according to company procedures Inspect equipment and immediately report damage, missing equipment, or safety concerns Make sure all equipment is accounted for before leaving customer locations Properly load and secure equipment in the trailer Keep the truck, trailer, equipment, and storage areas organized Monitor inventory and notify management when equipment or supplies are running low, missing, damaged, or need replacement Perform regular checks of commonly used equipment and supplies Communicate professionally with customers Troubleshoot routine setup, pickup, equipment, and route issues Make sure crew members follow company procedures and safety requirements Help unload and organize equipment at storage after routes are completed Communication & Leadership Excellent communication is required for this position. The Crew Lead must communicate effectively with the business owner/management, other Crew Leads, Setup & Pickup Crew members, cleaning crew when necessary, and customers. Keep management informed throughout the workday Communicate delays, route problems, customer concerns, equipment issues, inventory shortages, employee issues, accidents, or safety concerns promptly Communicate important information with other Crew Leads so everyone stays informed about equipment, inventory, routes, customers, and crew needs Give crew members clear and respectful instructions Keep the crew organized, productive, and working safely Help solve problems as they arise Lead by example and be willing to perform the same physical work expected from the crew Physical Requirements Commercial inflatables are made from heavy-duty vinyl, and rolled units can weigh several hundred pounds. Crew Leads are expected to actively participate in physical work. Able to frequently lift and carry up to approximately 75 lbs independently Able to work as part of a team to push, pull, roll, maneuver, load, and unload commercial inflatables weighing approximately 100-400+ lbs Heavy inflatables are handled using appropriate team-lifting and equipment-handling procedures; employees are not expected to individually lift a several-hundred-pound inflatable Able to repeatedly bend, kneel, crouch, push, pull, lift, carry, and roll equipment Comfortable performing strenuous physical work for extended periods Comfortable working outdoors in heat, humidity, sun, and changing weather conditions Comfortable handling equipment that may be wet, muddy, or dirty Qualifications Excellent reliability and punctuality Valid driver's license Driving record that meets company and insurance requirements Comfortable driving a company truck and towing a loaded equipment trailer Strong leadership and communication skills Willing to work alongside the crew rather than only delegate Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills Able to give clear and respectful instructions Able to keep a crew organized and productive Able to communicate effectively with management and other Crew Leads Able to monitor inventory and identify when supplies or equipment are running low Professional when interacting with customers and their property Strong attention to safety and equipment care Reliable transportation to the designated meeting or work location Willing to complete the company's applicable pre-employment background-screening process Previous event-rental experience is preferred but not required. Relevant experience in leadership, delivery, moving, truck/trailer towing, landscaping, construction, warehouse operations, logistics, or event setup may also be considered. Schedule & Availability This is a part-time/seasonal position. Hours and routes vary depending on rental volume, customer locations, weather, and business needs. Friday and Sunday availability is especially important because these are our primary delivery and pickup days. Additional weekday and weekend work may also be available. Reliability The Crew Lead is one of the people the entire crew depends on. When a shift is accepted, the Lead is expected to arrive on time, prepared to work and lead the crew. Crew Leads should never expect their crew to perform physical work they are unwilling to help perform themselves. Strong and timely communication is expected regarding emergencies, delays, employee issues, customer concerns, inventory shortages, vehicle or trailer concerns, and equipment problems. Background & Driving Screening Because Down South Funflatables regularly provides services for children's birthday parties, schools, family events, HOA/community events, and other locations where children and families may be present, employment is contingent upon completion of the company's applicable pre-employment background-screening process. Applicants must also meet applicable motor vehicle record and company insurance requirements before being authorized to drive company vehicles. Compensation Starting at $19+/hour, depending on experience. Higher starting pay may be considered for applicants with directly relevant event-rental, leadership, truck/trailer towing, delivery, moving, logistics, or similar experience.
