Job Description

The individual will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of Shipping/Receiving Department and handling logistics for outbound and inbound freight.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of shipping, receiving, warehouse, inventory, and material-handling procedures. Knowledge of manufacturing operations and production requirements. Knowledge of workplace safety practices, including safe forklift and material-handling procedures. Strong leadership and employee supervision skills. Ability to effectively train, coach, and motivate employees. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to accurately verify quantities, part numbers, orders, and shipping documentation. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to identify and resolve shipping, receiving, inventory, and delivery issues. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, customers, vendors, carriers, and other departments. Ability to work effectively with Production, Purchasing, Sales, and Management. Ability to use inventory, shipping, and ERP systems. Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare required reports. Ability to enforce company policies and safety procedures consistently and fairly. Ability to maintain confidentiality of company, employee, customer, and business information. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Ability to remain professional and composed when handling urgent issues or conflicts.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise, train, schedule, and direct shipping and receiving employees. Coordinate daily shipping and receiving activities to meet production and customer requirements. Ensure finished products are properly packaged, labeled, staged, and loaded for shipment. Receive incoming materials, inspect shipments for accuracy and damage, and ensure materials are properly documented and stored. Verify quantities, part numbers, purchase orders, packing slips, bills of lading, and shipping documents. Coordinate freight pickups and deliveries with carriers, vendors, customers, and internal departments. Maintain accurate inventory records and investigate discrepancies. Ensure materials are moved and stored safely and efficiently. Operate or oversee the safe operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment. Ensure employees follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and established work procedures. Monitor department productivity, quality, attendance, and performance. Communicate shipping and receiving priorities with Production, Purchasing, Sales, and Management. Resolve shipping discrepancies, damaged shipments, shortages, and other issues in a timely manner. Ensure customer orders are shipped accurately and on time. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping and receiving area. Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts as needed. Monitor and maintain shipping supplies, packaging materials, and department equipment. Prepare and maintain required shipping, receiving, and inventory documentation. Coach employees and address performance or attendance issues in accordance with company policy. Participate in hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary processes when requested. Identify opportunities to improve department efficiency, reduce errors, and control costs. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Performance Expectations Success in this position is measured by: Accurate and timely shipments and receipts. Inventory accuracy. On-time customer shipments. Safe material handling and compliance with safety procedures. Department productivity and organization. Effective employee supervision and communication. Reduction of shipping, receiving, and inventory errors. Proper completion and maintenance of required documentation.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing operations.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Forklift experience and certification.
  • Ability to read and understand shipping documents, purchase orders, packing slips, bills of lading, and freight requirements.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn company inventory and shipping systems.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
