Job Description

This role will be responsible for directing, training, advising, and monitoring service staff tasks and activities to ensure efficient and properly executed maintenance and repair of City vehicles and equipment, maintaining a safe environment, accurate records, positive morale, and excellent customer service. Other facility and fleet related duties as assigned. Position may require work up to 12-hour shifts, 7 days a week, during ice & snow events, or other emergency operations.
  • Complete administrative duties under the direction of the Fleet Services Manager.
  • Direct and coordinate the work of the team members to optimize efficiency of equipment maintenance and repair tasks and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Coach and assist team with diagnosis and repair on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment for their shop.
  • Ensure that vehicle and equipment work orders and records are updated and accurate, close upon completion.
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance and apply corrective action if required.
  • Arrange, authorize, and pay outside service and some shop expenses.
  • Take the lead on communicating with departments, vendors, and operators regarding status of work, and to establish priorities. Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Five years of verifiable experience in automotive and/or heavy equipment repair.
  • ASE certified in four areas or to obtain within one year from hire.
  • Valid commercial driver's license or to obtain within one year from hire.
  • NC Safety and Emissions inspector's license or to obtain within one year from hire. Preferred Qualifications
  • Seven years' experience with some vocational, technical, or trade school training in Automotive Mechanics or Repair with two (2) years of team lead or supervisory experience.
  • ASE Master Certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
(Reasonable accommodations may substitute for physical requirements listed below): Must be able to lift or move up to 100 lbs. Maneuver up to 1 mile; must be able to crawl, climb, operate medium equipment and work with large and small objects; must possess good communications skills and functionally normal hearing. This position will work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to cold, heat, changing weather, adverse smells and sights, loud sounds and long periods of standing.
