Position Summary Clay Cooley Auto Group is seeking a dependable, hands-on Outbound Warehouse Lead to coordinate daily shipping, order fulfillment, customer pickup, returns, and delivery-dispatch activities. Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor, the Outbound Warehouse Lead provides day-to-day direction to employees assigned to outbound operations. This position is responsible for organizing workloads, monitoring order progress, maintaining shipping accuracy, meeting carrier and delivery deadlines, training employees, and resolving routine operational issues. This is a working lead position . The successful candidate will spend most of the day on the warehouse floor, actively supporting the team while also providing direction and maintaining accountability. Essential Responsibilities Outbound Operations Coordinate the daily outbound workload based on order volume, customer pickup requirements, delivery schedules, staffing, and carrier cutoff times. Ensure orders are accurately verified, packed, labeled, documented, staged, and released on time. Monitor e-commerce, customer pickup, account, internal transfer, and delivery orders throughout the day. Confirm that the correct items, quantities, documentation, and destinations are matched to each order. Ensure fragile, oversized, high-value, or specially handled merchandise is packaged and staged appropriately. Monitor aging, incomplete, and priority orders and take action to prevent avoidable delays. Coordinate carrier pickups and ensure completed shipments are staged in the correct outbound area. Help identify shipping errors, recurring delays, and workflow issues and recommend practical improvements. Team Leadership Assign daily work and communicate priorities clearly to outbound team members. Conduct brief start-of-shift meetings to review workload, urgent orders, staffing needs, safety concerns, and deadlines. Monitor team progress and adjust assignments as order volume and priorities change. Train employees on order verification, packing, labeling, scanning, staging, customer pickup, returns, and safe material handling. Provide timely and respectful coaching when errors or performance concerns occur. Recognize recurring attendance, conduct, or performance issues and report them to the Warehouse Supervisor. Promote teamwork among shipping, order fulfillment, customer pickup, returns, dispatch, picking, receiving, and inventory control employees. Work alongside the team during high-volume periods, staffing shortages, and urgent order situations. Customer Pickup and Order Release Ensure customer pickup orders are complete, accurately staged, clearly identified, and easy to locate. Maintain an organized and professional customer pickup area. Respond to routine questions regarding order status and readiness. Communicate order delays or discrepancies to the appropriate employee, department, or customer. Verify that orders are released to the correct customer, account representative, driver, or authorized recipient. Confirm that required signatures and release documentation are completed when applicable. Returns and RMA Processing Support the accurate processing and staging of returns, damaged merchandise, incorrect shipments, and return-authorized items. Ensure returned merchandise is clearly labeled and separated from available inventory. Confirm that required return documentation is completed and routed to the appropriate department. Help identify recurring shipping damage, packaging failures, order errors, or return trends. Coordinate with inventory control and management to ensure returned items are handled correctly. Driver and Delivery Dispatch Coordinate with dispatch personnel to ensure delivery routes are complete, organized, and ready for departure. Confirm that drivers receive the correct orders, route information, and supporting documentation. Help resolve missing-order, loading, staging, or route-readiness issues before drivers leave the warehouse. Communicate urgent delivery changes, delays, or exceptions to the Warehouse Supervisor and appropriate departments. Ensure delivery orders are staged in a manner that supports safe, efficient loading and route completion. Coordination With Other Warehouse Functions Work closely with the Picking Lead to ensure outbound orders are picked according to priority and deadline. Coordinate with Inventory Control to resolve shortages, item discrepancies, incorrect locations, and order holds. Communicate with the Inbound Lead when incoming merchandise is needed to complete urgent orders. Escalate unresolved staffing, inventory, safety, customer service, or operational issues to the Warehouse Supervisor. Provide clear updates regarding backlogs, missed deadlines, damaged merchandise, and other exceptions. Assist with cycle counts, warehouse organization, and operational projects as directed. Safety and Organization Follow and help enforce company safety procedures and applicable workplace safety requirements. Maintain clean, organized, and clearly marked outbound work and staging areas. Ensure aisles, exits, workstations, loading areas, and emergency equipment remain accessible. Confirm employees use forklifts, pallet jacks, ladders, scanners, packaging tools, and other equipment properly. Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, product damage, and workplace incidents immediately. Promote safe lifting, material handling, loading, and equipment-use practices. Participate in warehouse cleanup, organization, and continuous-improvement activities. Required Qualifications At least two years of experience in warehouse shipping, order fulfillment, distribution, logistics, or a similar operation. Previous experience as a warehouse lead, trainer, senior associate, acting supervisor, or similar position. Ability to provide clear direction while maintaining a respectful and team-oriented workplace. Strong attention to detail when verifying items, quantities, destinations, labels, and shipping documentation. Ability to prioritize multiple order channels and respond appropriately when deadlines or workloads change. Experience using RF scanners, barcode systems, shipping software, order-management software, or warehouse inventory systems. Basic computer skills, including email, reports, spreadsheets, and data entry. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to communicate professionally with employees, drivers, customers, vendors, and management. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a high-volume warehouse, distribution center, fulfillment center, or multi-location operation. Experience with e-commerce fulfillment, customer pickup, account orders, returns processing, or driver dispatch. Experience using a warehouse management system, enterprise resource planning system, AS400, or similar software. Experience tracking productivity, order accuracy, backlogs, shipping errors, or carrier performance. Forklift or powered industrial truck experience and certification. Familiarity with continuous-improvement or lean warehouse practices. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for most of the workday. Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, climb, and perform repetitive warehouse tasks. Ability to regularly lift and carry merchandise or packages weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to use team-lifting procedures or approved equipment for heavier and oversized items. Ability to work safely around forklifts, pallet jacks, delivery vehicles, loading areas, and warehouse equipment. Ability to work in a warehouse environment where temperatures and noise levels may vary. Ability to work overtime or adjusted hours when order volume or operational needs require it.
