A general laborer performs physically demanding manual tasks across industries like construction, manufacturing, and warehousing. Responsibilities include preparing work sites, loading and unloading materials, operating basic hand or power tools, and assisting skilled tradespeople to ensure daily operations run smoothly and safely.
Core Responsibilities Site Preparation:
Clearing debris, removing hazards, digging trenches, and setting up temporary structures like scaffolding.
Material Handling:
Loading, unloading, and moving building supplies or inventory using wheelbarrows, carts, or dollies.
Equipment Operation:
Using tools such as jackhammers, drills, saws, and grinders, or operating light machinery.
Trade Assistance:
Supporting carpenters, electricians, plumbers, or machine operators with heavy lifting and layout prep.
Safety Compliance:
Following OSHA health and safety regulations and properly wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Key Qualifications & Skills Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods, perform repetitive motions, and lift heavy objects (often 50+ pounds).
Dependability:
Strong work ethic, punctuality, and the ability to work reliably with minimal supervision.
Flexibility:
Quick to learn new tasks and adapt to changing site or weather conditions.
Communication:
Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately. Work Environment & Compensation General laborers frequently work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) or in active indoor warehouse/factory environments.
