Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Warehouse Assistant will be responsible for supporting RFG's mobile pantry program by driving a refrigerated box truck, conducting mobile free food distributions, delivering grocery orders as needed, stocking shelves, cleaning the warehouse, creating social media posts, and other duties as assigned.

RFG's mobile pantry program operates out of a 14-foot refrigerated box truck delivering food to individuals and families struggling with food insecurity in both urban and rural areas throughout DeKalb County. The ideal candidate will demonstrate good judgment, have an approachable and professional personality, display independent problem-solving skills, and have dependable organizational ability.
POSITION CONTEXT
This position reports directly to the Mobile Pantry Program Director and is required to work a part-time work week, as designated by the RFG Employee Handbook. The hours typically average 20 hours per week for 52 weeks, including occasional evenings and weekends. Travel of distance throughout the DeKalb County region is required utilizing RFG's vehicles. This position routinely handles highly sensitive and/or confidential information and will represent RFG in a variety of capacities to the community.
EXAMPLES OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
With direction from the Mobile Pantry Program Director, you will: Assist in the distribution of food via pop-up pantry events in and around DeKalb County. Manage and deliver regular Direct Connect pick-ups from various local supermarkets. Manage and deliver regular pre-packed food packages to seniors in and around DeKalb County. Regularly organize, clean, and maintain box trucks. Assist with regular organization and cleaning of the warehouse including sweeping and mopping floors. Assist with social media content for pantry programming in collaboration with colleagues. Complete required training related to the position including food safety, and sexual harassment, etc. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Customer service practices and procedures. Knowledge of the social services sector and/or emergency food sector.
Necessary Skills:
Verbal and written communication skills. Problem-solving, planning, researching, organizing, and scheduling. Computer skills, especially Microsoft Office and Google applications, email and internet-browsing software.
Ability to:
Work with people of diverse backgrounds. Demonstrate a strong interest and show compassion for the issues of food insecurity and poverty. Be self-directed and interested in growing into organizational leadership opportunities. Envision program changes or additions to best serve the needs of the residents we serve as well as the organization.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The working environment is a mixture of office/warehouse and public spaces both indoor and outdoor. While performing the office duties of this job, the employee works in a temperature controlled, non-smoking environment. Work will include some time in a walk-in cooler which is kept at 41F or less. Work in outside public spaces may require exposure to inclement weather conditions. The employee is required to make frequent trips off site by motor vehicle, at times for extended periods. Local, county and state travel are required. The noise level varies but is generally moderate to loud.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The duties of this position require frequent sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and occasionally driving a motor vehicle for extended periods of time. May require lifting or moving objects up to 50 lbs. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
EQUIPMENT USED
14-foot refrigerated box truck. The ideal candidate will have experience with or the ability to learn how to operate a variety of motor vehicles. Pallet jack, manual and automated. General office equipment including personal computers, scanners, copiers, faxes, and software programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Minimum a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred truck driving experience. Preferred experience with social services and/or emergency food sectors and food insecurity is a plus. Valid Class D (regular) Illinois driver's license required by date of hire with a clean driving record.
