WORK SCHEDULE
7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.,
M-F SALARY:
$21.02 per hour
JOB CATEGORY

DUTIES:
Operates dump truck, forklift, overhead crane, and other small equipment and hand tools. Mixes, pours, and finishes concrete. Trains and assists with repairs of sanitary and storm sewers, mini cam inspections, locates, and GIS. Inspects and cleans catch basins/inlets. Establishes traffic control plan according to the Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (IMUTCD). Performs duties in work zone traffic and safety control, such as flagman and setting up barricades and portable signs. Performs routine inspection of new home construction sewer hook-ups and sewer insurance repairs. Assists in clean-up of job sites and performs general maintenance, landscaping, and custodial duties. Locates utility lines as needed. Trains new and/or temporary assigned employees. Oversees loading/unloading of construction materials and equipment from trucks or other vehicles. Maintains inventory on trucks and maintains records of assignments, including cleaning, preventive, and maintaining equipment used daily. Assists with snow removal. Maintains records of assignments. Performs related duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
High school diploma or HSE. Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including passage of medical exam, drug test, and physical aptitude test. Possession of and ability to maintain CPR/First Aid, PPE, Hazardous Communications, and working in extreme temperatures, confined space entry, work zone traffic/safety control, and PPE training/certification. Working knowledge of sewer systems, maintenance operations, and mechanical equipment. Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to complete required paperwork and activity reports. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows programs. Knowledge of department bloodborne pathogen exposure reporting procedures, and ability to protect oneself from contracting infectious diseases by avoiding high risk environments and by having knowledge of and utilizing universal health precautions. Ability to make practical applications of department and OSHA safety policies and procedures. Ability to operate machinery/equipment, including manlift, pallet jack, forklift, overhead crane, grinder, belt sander, cement mixer, compactor, trucks/trailers, diaphragm pump, and pressure washer. Ability to operate a variety of hand and/or power tools in performance of duties, including, but not limited to, hammers, air hammer, screw drivers, wrenches, hand/drill presses, gas/electric cutoff saws, band/circular/table/concrete saws, air nozzle, air compressor, gauges, pipe cutters, cement tools, power washer, grease gun, locator, files, driver, ratchet, mop, and broom. Ability to properly operate standard office equipment and software programs, such as computer, scanner, calculator, and telephone. Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including sitting and walking at will, standing/walking/sitting for long periods, walking on uneven terrain, lifting/carrying objects over 100 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at waist, reaching, fingering objects, handling/grasping objects, driving, close/far vision, depth/color perception, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds/communication. Ability to perform sewer maintenance and preventative and minor maintenance of equipment. Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct. Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to State requirements. Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment. Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and work rapidly for long periods, occasionally under time pressure. Ability to properly operate standard office equipment, computer, scanner, calculator, and telephone. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other City departments, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities. Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written or oral instructions and understand/integrate utility location markings. Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile people. Ability to apply knowledge of people and locations, to plan and layout assigned work projects. Ability to count and make simple arithmetic additions/subtractions. Ability to read/interpret/understand detailed prints, sketches, layouts, specifications, and maps. Ability to occasionally work extended hours, weekends, or evenings and respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis. Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record with ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with proper endorsements.
RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent works according to a daily work schedule with priorities determined by supervisor. Decisions are always determined by specific instructions or existing well-established policies and procedures. Incumbent reports directly to Assistant Manager.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Incumbent's duties involve sitting and walking at will, standing/walking/sitting for long periods, walking on uneven terrain, lifting objects over 100 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, carrying objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at waist, reaching, fingering objects, handling/grasping objects, driving, close/far vision, depth/color perception, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds/communication.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent performs duties primarily outdoors, at construction sites, public rights-of-way, and private property and sometimes in confined areas or in a vehicle. Incumbent works with machinery, moving parts, traffic, extreme temperatures, wet/icy surroundings, near chemicals, near fumes/odors/dust/dirt, noisy environment, confined areas, and high places, such as ladders, roofs, or bucket truck. Incumbent may respond to emergencies or situations involving potential harm and may be exposed to violent/irate individuals. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self or others, including wearing protective clothing or equipment. Incumbent is occasionally required to work extended hours, weekends, or evenings and may be required to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis from off-duty status.
