Material Handler - SSF

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible for numerous production related duties that include but are not limited to moving and organizing materials, following production schedules, and prepping, This position will work closely with the Production Supervisor(s) to ensure an organized and efficient flow of materials through the plant while meeting established daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals.

Experience using cranes preferredExperience using forklift requiredPrior Manufacturing experience preferredHigh School Diploma or GED Equivalent preferredRegular and timely attendance is required

JOB DUTIES

Operating overhead cranes and/or forklifts as necessaryFollowing company production and safety proceduresCleaning, packaging and finishing materials after the galvanizing process is completeTracking all materials that are on site, both company stock and customer materialsKeeping the yard and materials neat and organizedCompleting all other reasonable tasks assigned by the Supervisor or the General ManagerCommunicating with the General Manager, and Supervisor(s) as necessary

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

In order to do the job, the following physical requirements are necessary: Valid driver's licenseAbility to communicate effectively both written and orally is mandatoryMust possess problem solving and communication skillsMust be team oriented, motivated and dependableAbility to work 10-hour shifts, or until the job is complete, outside in all weather conditionsAbility to multitask and stay focused in a fast-paced work environmentAbility to occasionally move / lift items weighing up to 100 lbs.

Effectively and safely utilizes ladders, man lifts, forklifts, overhead cranes, etc. Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

Must be able to work in an open environment for long shifts (including weekends) exposed to extreme temperatures, standing entire shiftMust have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sourcesThe worker is required to have visual acuity to make general observations of facilities or structures

Must be at least 18 years oldAdhere to all Southland Steel Fabricator's, Inc. Safety Rules, Policies, and ProceduresAttend all required safety meetingsInspect the tools and equipment prior to work each day to ensure they are free of defectsUse hand and power tools safely at all times with correct guards in placeWear personal protective equipment in accordance with policy and adequate for specific tasks
