Warehouse Associate
Job Description
The Warehouse Associate reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and proper care, handling, packaging, and movement of all customer goods while in the custody of Navis Pack & Ship. This role executes custom packaging, wooden crate construction, freight handling, and daily pickup/delivery operations in strict compliance with Navis brand standards and safety procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Custom Crating & Box Building:
Safely operate power tools and shop machinery, including table/miter saws, pneumatic nail guns, and heavy-duty staple guns, to measure, cut, and assemble custom wooden crates, slat crates, skids, and corrugated containers.
Packaging & Cushioning Execution:
Package, wrap, and cushion fragile, large, awkward, and valuable (FLAV) items (fine art, antiques, electronics, machinery) following standard packaging indexes. Utilize appropriate interior blocking, bracing, foam-in-place (FIP), bubble wrap, and double-boxing techniques.
Freight Staging & Palletizing:
Band, stretch-wrap, and palletize freight to carrier specifications. Affix required shipping labels, BOL documentation, and Navis "Handle with Care" brand markings to all completed shipments.
Equipment & Tool Maintenance:
Maintain all shop machinery and pneumatic tools in optimal working condition; perform daily safety inspections, drain compressors, and lubricate nailers/staplers as required. Safely operate pallet jacks, dollies, and forklifts (if certified).
Pickup & Delivery Support:
Assist with on-site customer pickups and deliveries, ensuring proper item inventory tagging, condition documentation on standard forms, and secure blanket-wrapping/tie-down loading in the company vehicle. Applicant must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Facility Maintenance & Compliance:
Maintain a clean, organized, and debris-free warehouse adhering to OSHA safety standards and Navis operational guidelines. Assist in tracking inventory levels for lumber, foam, corrugated sheets, and hardware.
Startup Facility Setup & Adaptability:
Periodically perform tasks outside standard packaging and crating duties to support the initial launch, build-out, and continuous operational readiness of a new facility. This includes assembling/installing storage shelving and pallet racking, light painting or wall repairs, and deep cleaning (breakroom, restrooms, office).
Qualifications:
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience in custom crating, carpentry, framing, cabinet making, or industrial packaging/warehouse material handling strongly preferred. Applicant must possess basic math skills.
Machinery & Tools:
Demonstrated hands-on proficiency in the safe operation of power saws (miter/table saws), pneumatic nail guns, staple guns, and standard hand tools.
Packaging Knowledge:
Prior experience with foam cushioning, carton resizing, palletizing, or fragile item packing preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, and move continuously throughout the shift. Ability to lift up to 50-75 lbs unassisted, and manage heavier/awkward loads (150+ lbs) safely using team-lift protocols or material handling equipment.
Safety & Compliance:
Strict adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, including full-foot protective footwear and eye/ear protection while operating tools. Minimum age of 18 (required for machinery and commercial vehicle operations under network standards).
Driving & Background:
Valid state driver's license and a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Must pass standard background screening.
Interpersonal Skills:
Dependable work ethic, attention to detail, and professional demeanor during customer pickups. .
Pay:
