General Labor Worker Job Description This role involves assembling custom wall, roof, and floor trusses in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment. You will work from blueprints, use hand tools and tape measures, and perform repetitive tasks while collaborating closely with a small team. The position requires frequent physical movement, including bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing on and off tables, as well as working at various angles to assemble high-quality building components. Responsibilities Assemble custom wall, roof, and floor trusses according to specifications and production requirements. Read and interpret blueprints to ensure accurate measurements and proper assembly of components. Use hand tools, tape measures, and other basic tools to assemble trusses and wall systems safely and efficiently. Climb on and off assembly tables and platforms throughout the shift to complete work tasks. Perform repetitive assembly of the same truss or wall design 10 or more times before switching to a new design. Work closely with other team members on a production line to meet daily output and quality goals. Bend, stoop, squat, and reach at various and sometimes awkward angles to position and secure materials. Follow instructions to work on either the truss side or wall side based on physical abilities and production needs. Use air tools and other equipment, particularly on the wall side, to assemble components. Maintain a clean and organized work station and follow all safety procedures and guidelines. Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality to support consistent production schedules. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding progress, issues, or safety concerns. Essential Skills Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure, including passing a tape measure test prior to placement. Ability to read and follow blueprints for truss and wall assembly. Experience using basic hand tools in a work or personal setting. Capability to perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and climbing on and off platforms throughout the shift. Comfort working in a repetitive, production-based environment, assembling the same item multiple times in succession. Good attendance history verified by references or prior work experience. Ability to work effectively as part of a small team on a production line. Willingness and ability to work on either the more physically active truss side or the slightly less active wall side as assigned. Ability to lift and handle building materials in an indoor lumber yard environment. Commitment to following safety rules, including proper use of tools and personal protective equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications Preferred:

At least 6 months of experience using hand tools in a work environment.

Preferred:

At least 6 months of experience in construction, general labor, or another physically demanding role. Experience in general construction, framing, or assembly work. Experience in general maintenance, drywall, landscaping, or related building trades. Familiarity with building materials and basic construction practices. Ownership of a hammer or willingness to purchase one on-site if required. Ability to adapt to working on either the truss side, which involves more bending and climbing, or the wall side, which involves more air tool use and slightly less climbing. Comfort working in a warehouse-style, indoor lumber yard environment that is not climate controlled. Why Work Here? You will join a stable, team-oriented operation where you can build practical skills in construction and assembly while working with supportive coworkers in small groups. The schedule offers consistent hours on structured shifts, allowing you to plan your time outside of work. You will gain hands-on experience with building materials and tools in an environment that values reliability, safety, and collaboration, providing a strong foundation for long-term growth in the trades. Work Environment The role is based in a warehouse-style, indoor lumber yard within a non-climate-controlled, covered building, so temperatures reflect seasonal conditions. You will work at a specific station as part of a line with 2 to 5 people in your group and approximately 60 people per shift overall. The first shift typically runs Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during slower seasons, while the second shift runs Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Schedules may adjust based on production needs. The work involves frequent lifting, bending, climbing on and off platforms, and using hand tools and air tools throughout the shift. The dress code requires jeans or shorts (no sweatpants), T-shirts with additional layers as needed (no cut-offs), and language on clothing must be appropriate and free of profanity. Steel-toe footwear is required. You will need to bring a hammer or be prepared to purchase one on-site. The environment emphasizes safety, clear communication, and teamwork in a busy production setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waverly, NE.
