$15.92 per hour + Overtime Potential Job Summary We are currently seeking a reliable and hardworking General Laborer - Port Operations to join our team in Jersey City, NJ. This position supports daily port operations, including cargo and freight handling, loading and unloading, container staging, material movement, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. An active TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card is required for this position. Candidates without a valid, active TWIC card will not be eligible for consideration. Key Responsibilities Assist with loading, unloading, securing, and sorting shipments, containers, and breakbulk materials. Move materials throughout the yard using hand trucks, pallet jacks, and other manual equipment. Assist forklift, crane, and other equipment operators with cargo staging and movement. Help secure freight onto trucks, railcars, and chassis using straps, chains, and lashing equipment. Maintain clean and organized docks, staging areas, pathways, and work areas. Follow all port, workplace, and safety procedures at all times. Inspect incoming and outgoing freight for visible damage. Verify container tags, seal numbers, and other shipment or manifest information. Perform other general labor and port-support duties as assigned. Schedule & Compensation Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM 40 hours per week $15.92/hour Overtime available based on operational needs, ship arrivals, weather delays, and volume. Overtime is paid at 1.5x the regular hourly rate after 40 hours worked in a workweek. Requirements & Qualifications Active TWIC Card - REQUIRED Previous warehouse, port, shipping/receiving, freight, or general labor experience preferred. Previous Forklift or Electric Pallet Jack (EPJ) experience is a major plus. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and perform physical work throughout an 8-hour shift. Must be dependable, punctual, and safety-conscious. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong work ethic and willingness to perform hands-on physical labor.
