Job Title:
Material Handler | 1st Shift | $20-22/HR Job Description This role supports warehouse and logistics operations by receiving, inspecting, and processing incoming parts and shipments, accurately picking and packing materials, and preparing outgoing shipments. The Material Handler - Warehouse Assistant works closely with the Logistics Administrator to maintain accurate inventory through daily cycle counts and proper documentation, while occasionally transporting parts to and from local vendors. The position involves handling specialized long-range surveillance equipment within a defense-industry environment and requires attention to detail, reliability, and safe work practices. Responsibilities Receive incoming parts and shipments, verify part numbers and quantities against expected values, and perform visual inspections for obvious damage. Assist the Logistics Administrator with the receipt, processing, and documentation of incoming materials. Pick inventory items accurately against material pick lists and bills of materials. Perform daily cycle counts under the supervision of the Logistics Administrator to maintain accurate inventory records. Pack outgoing shipments properly and securely for all types of materials, ensuring appropriate packaging for long-range surveillance equipment and related products. Prepare finished goods for occasional packaging and shipment according to established procedures. Courier parts to and from local vendors and drop off outgoing shipments to designated shippers as needed. Perform standard warehouse functions, including stocking shelves, loading, unloading, and general material handling tasks. Essential Skills Proven reliability and strong attendance in a warehouse or similar environment. Experience with standard warehouse functions such as stocking shelves, conducting cycle counts, and picking inventory items against a bill of materials. Ability to correctly pick, pack, load, and unload materials with attention to detail and accuracy. Basic computer skills and familiarity with Windows operating systems. Experience working with an ERP system, including comfort with some tasks tracked on paper. Ability to send and respond to emails in a professional and timely manner. Capability to lift between 50 and 80 pounds at times using safe lifting practices. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work takes place in a temperature-controlled warehouse environment with appropriate personal protective equipment provided. The facility supports handling long-range surveillance equipment and other defense-industry products, and safety procedures are a core part of daily operations. The role involves minimal forklift usage but may include operating forklifts or scissor lifts if qualified. Work includes picking, packing, loading, unloading, and occasional packaging of finished goods, with some lifting of 50 to 80 pounds. The schedule follows a first-shift pattern, generally from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a two-week rotation where one week is 44 hours (Monday through Friday) and the next week is 36 hours (with Friday off), structured so that these hours do not trigger overtime. The environment is casual, with an emphasis on comfort and a non-micromanaged atmosphere, while still requiring adherence to safety standards, including wearing closed-toe shoes and PPE as needed. Basic computer usage, ERP interaction, and occasional paper-based tracking are part of the daily workflow. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Berea, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
