Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Street and Sanitation Director to lead our city's efforts in maintaining clean, safe, and efficient public spaces. Role Description The Street and Sanitation Director is a full-time, on-site role based in Helena, AR, responsible for overseeing street maintenance and sanitation operations across the city. This role manages daily activities such as scheduling and supervising sanitation crews, coordinating waste collection, and ensuring streets, public areas, and related facilities are properly maintained. The director develops and implements sanitation and safety procedures, monitors compliance with local and state regulations, and addresses service issues or resident concerns. The position includes managing budgets, equipment, and resources, preparing reports, and collaborating with other city departments to support community cleanliness and public health. The director also leads training efforts for staff, emphasizing safe work practices, quality service delivery, and continuous improvement Responsibilities Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of street maintenance and sanitation programs across the city. Oversee waste collection, recycling initiatives, and environmental compliance efforts to promote sustainability. Manage teams responsible for street cleaning, pothole repairs, sidewalk maintenance, and debris removal. Develop policies and procedures that enhance operational efficiency while ensuring safety standards are met. Collaborate with community stakeholders, government agencies, and private contractors to address infrastructure needs and service requests. Monitor performance metrics to ensure timely completion of projects and adherence to budgetary guidelines. Implement innovative solutions to improve sanitation services, reduce environmental impact, and promote public health. Experience Proven experience in urban infrastructure management, sanitation services or related fields with a strong emphasis on leadership roles. Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans that improve city services and infrastructure quality. Excellent knowledge of environmental regulations, waste management practices, and city planning principles. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse community groups and government officials. Experience managing large teams of operational staff in a fast-paced environment is highly desirable. Ability to analyze data-driven reports to inform decision-making and process improvements. Familiarity with modern sanitation technologies and sustainable urban development practices is a plus. Qualifications Strong Communication skills to coordinate teams, interact with residents, and collaborate with city leadership. Previous supervisory or management experience in public works, sanitation, facilities, or a related field. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee multiple projects and crews in a fast-paced operational setting. Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations related to public health, waste management, and environmental compliance. Valid driver's license and the ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions as needed. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or coursework in public works, environmental services, or management is preferred.
