Job Description
Position Summary The Plant Operation Operator provides hands-on field and operational support for daily plant activities within the Administration Department. This position is primarily responsible for operating authorized heavy equipment and plant vehicles, supporting truck and material movement, monitoring designated site access points, assisting with shipping and tank trailer activities, and maintaining assigned plant operational areas. The Plant Operation Operator works closely with the Plant Operation Coordinator, Plant Operation Assistant, and other departments to support safe, efficient, and orderly plant operations. This position is expected to follow established work instructions, safety procedures, traffic controls, and site access requirements while promptly reporting abnormal or unsafe conditions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Heavy Equipment and Plant Vehicle Operation Operate container handlers and other authorized plant equipment and vehicles as assigned. Operate equipment only after completing required training, qualification, and authorization. Perform required pre-use inspections of assigned equipment and report identified defects or unsafe conditions. Follow established traffic routes, speed limits, operating procedures, and safety requirements. Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of assigned container handling equipment and operational vehicles. Immediately report equipment damage, malfunction, accidents, near misses, or unsafe operating conditions. Do not operate equipment beyond the employee's assigned training or authorization. 2. Gate and Vehicle Access Support Monitor conditions around the West Gate and promptly report abnormal, unsafe, or unusual situations. Monitor and control routine vehicle access at the West Gate in accordance with established site access procedures. Coordinate with the Guard House and appropriate personnel regarding routine truck and vehicle entry. Direct large commercial vehicles and trucks to designated loading, unloading, parking, or staging locations. Support the safe movement of vehicles entering and exiting assigned plant areas. Report unauthorized access, unsafe traffic conditions, or other access-related concerns to the Plant Operation Coordinator or appropriate management personnel. 3. Weigh Scale and Truck Support Operate the plant weigh scale as assigned. Record or communicate required vehicle weight information in accordance with established procedures. Assist drivers with routing and staging instructions. Support truck movement during loading and unloading activities. Report unusual weight results, documentation discrepancies, or vehicle-related concerns for further review. 4. Shipping and Receiving Field Support Support routine shipping and receiving activities within assigned plant areas. Assist with the physical coordination of trucks, containers, trailers, and other transportation equipment. Deliver or transfer shipping and receiving documents to designated personnel as required. Confirm that drivers are directed to the appropriate operational area. Assist with loading and unloading preparation when assigned and properly authorized. Report shipment, vehicle, material, or documentation discrepancies to the Plant Operation Assistant or Plant Operation Coordinator. 5. Tank Trailer and Storage Area Support Support the routine movement, staging, and management of tank trailers within designated plant areas. Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned tank trailer storage and staging areas. Conduct visual checks of assigned areas and report abnormal conditions, damage, leaks, spills, or safety concerns. Assist with tank trailer movement and operational support activities as directed. Follow all applicable safety requirements when working around tank trailers, chemical transportation equipment, and designated operating areas. 6. Material Handling and Storage Area Support Support the physical movement, staging, organization, and handling of plant materials as assigned. Maintain the physical organization and condition of designated plant material storage areas. Assist with physical inventory counts when requested. Report material shortages, damage, misplaced materials, or unusual inventory conditions. Support routine material issuance and return activities from the physical handling perspective. Coordinate with the Plant Operation Assistant for required inventory records and transaction documentation. 7. Rack and Equipment Area Maintenance Monitor the physical condition of designated racks, storage fixtures, and material handling areas. Maintain assigned rack and storage areas in a safe and orderly condition. Report damaged racks, fixtures, containers, barriers, or other equipment conditions requiring repair. Assist with routine housekeeping and minor operational support activities within assigned areas. 8. Site Inspection and General Plant Support Conduct routine perimeter and assigned-area inspections and report abnormal conditions. Monitor plant roads, designated outdoor areas, and operational support areas for safety or housekeeping concerns. Support routine cleaning and maintenance of plant roads and assigned common operational areas. Maintain cleanliness of the West Guard House interior and surrounding exterior areas as assigned. Assist with temporary traffic control, staging, or site-support activities when directed. Support other plant operational activities based on daily assignments and business needs. 9. Safety and Environmental Responsibilities Follow all company safety policies, operating procedures, traffic rules, and site requirements. Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Complete required safety, equipment, and operational training before performing assigned work. Stop work and immediately report unsafe conditions when appropriate. Promptly report spills, leaks, damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, and near misses. Maintain good housekeeping in assigned operational areas. Follow applicable environmental, chemical handling, and waste management procedures related to assigned duties. Participate in required safety meetings, inspections, audits, and training activities. 10. Cross-Functional and General Support Work closely with the Plant Operation Coordinator, Plant Operation Assistant, Security/Guard House personnel, Warehouse, Production, Maintenance, EHS, Logistics, and other departments as needed. Follow daily work assignments and priorities established by the Plant Operation Coordinator or appropriate supervisor. Communicate completion status, delays, unusual conditions, or operational concerns. Assist with plant projects, inspections, facility activities, and other operational support tasks as assigned. Perform other plant operation-related duties and miscellaneous assignments as directed by management. Responsibility and Escalation Expectations The Plant Operation Operator is responsible for safely and accurately completing assigned field activities within established procedures, work instructions, and equipment authorization. The position is expected to independently perform routine physical and operational tasks but does not independently determine plant-wide operational priorities, approve exceptions to security procedures, authorize major repairs, resolve inventory discrepancies, or make significant logistics or operational decisions. Operational conflicts, abnormal equipment conditions, material discrepancies, shipment issues, security concerns, significant facility problems, and other matters outside established procedures must be promptly escalated to the Plant Operation Coordinator or appropriate management personnel. Proposed Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in manufacturing, warehouse operations, logistics, material handling, construction, industrial operations, or a related environment preferred. Previous experience operating forklifts, container handlers, yard equipment, heavy equipment, or similar industrial vehicles preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain company-required equipment training and authorization. Basic ability to read and follow written work instructions, safety procedures, signs, and operational documents. Ability to accurately communicate information regarding vehicles, materials, equipment, and site conditions. Basic computer or data-entry skills preferred. Ability to work effectively with drivers, contractors, vendors, employees, and cross-functional teams. Strong awareness of workplace safety and ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions. Ability to work outdoors and in an industrial/manufacturing environment. Ability to work in indoor and outdoor industrial environments and varying weather conditions. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and perform physical work for extended periods as required. Ability to safely enter and exit industrial vehicles and equipment. Ability to wear required PPE for assigned work areas. Ability to work around large commercial vehicles, material handling equipment, industrial machinery, and chemical manufacturing operations. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials within company-defined safe work limits and applicable job requirements.
